Overtime question?
SO... If you making over 23,000 a year and classified in a way as to not make overtime IE: Manager, etc... does that mean anything after 40 is not OT? Will employees simply say they are not working past 40 hours a week and that will be it...or can employers force employees to work more hours and if the employee says no, they can be fired? AND the employee can't sue?

If so.... What is the cut-off? Another words, can an employer compel an employee to work say......60 hours a week?

Hope the above makes sense.....

how much you are willing to put up with in order to keep your job.
Some people will probably be asked to live at their work sites. Companies will be erecting small cabins behind the main house for their work forces and charging nominal rents, just so they won't waste travel time. That way, they can get as close as possible to the absolute maximum of 168 hours labor per week. Benevolent owners, I mean employers, will only require work from sun up to sun down, thereby giving folks a real break during winter months.

2. It's going to take awhile.....
to sort out the changes. Not sure that employers even know the facts. But I DO guarantee you ONE THING - - It WILL screw the middle class!

3. Sure
Any salaried employee can be fired for not working as many hours as the job requires. They don't get fired for "not working extra hours," they get fired for "not being committed enough," "not completing enough work," or other similar things. I'm a salaried teacher, and I guarantee I work way more than 40/wk - but if I didn't do all that work after school, I would lose my job.

4. If you are exempt
then you are not entitled to overtime pay.

If there is no union, civil service or employment contract, then certainly exempt at-will employee can be fired for refusing to work over 40.

Employer can expect at-will employee to work as much as reasonbly necessary to get job done. If it is more than employee desires to work, employee can quit. No other recourse.

6. yes, you can now be fired for refusing to work OT
Although that's been true in the past, too, paying through the nose for OT hours has kept your hours limited beyond 40.

Now they can work you 60-80 hours a week for the same money they've been paying you for 40, and the only thing you can do is QUIT.

By the way, nurses are already being "reclassified." Expect to see a lot more of us working elsewhere.
