A response to my email to Mr. French, Clackamas District Attorney office.
Dear Sir or Madam,

This is the guy in the smearboat ad that ended up admitting that what he said in the ad was from what OTHER vets had told him. Here's the response to my email. Foote doesn't "personally" agree with Mr. French. Must be an interesting day in THEIR office....

Thank you for taking the time to contact our office with your comments/concerns about Mr. French. I want to begin by saying that, while I do not personally share the opinions expressed by our prosecutor, all of our employees have the right to their own opinions on these subjects and to express those opinions in their own time. I believe that this is what happened here. Sometimes good people just honestly disagree. It is particularly difficult when it is on subjects that are so important to our nation and our community. Thanks again for contacting the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office.

John S. Foote

Clackamas County District Attorney

4. Isn't there some ethical consideration...
about a prosecutor, a lawyer, lying on an affidavit about ANYTHING, on or off office hours?

5. I doesn't look like they are going to do anything
to this guy. Apparently they don't CARE that lied and signed an affidavit.

under false pretenses.

It goes beyond the right to air one's opinion.

Local veterans call for attorney's resignation

OREGON CITY, Ore. - Clackamas County veterans are calling for the resignation of an assistant district attorney who appeared in television ads attacking Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's military record.

In the ad, and a sworn affidavit, Al French says he served with Kerry and that the Purple Heart medals Kerry received were obtained under false pretenses.

However, French admitted later that he did not witness the events mentioned in the affidavit and was relying on what his friends told him.

Veteran Don Stewart says he believes it was outrageous that French would try to smear Kerry's military record.

"Mr. French signed an affidavit defaming John Kerry's military service and then he admitted that he had no first-hand knowledge of what he swore to," Stewart said on Monday. "Someone who the community trusts to carry out the law cannot be lying in sworn, legal affidavits."

On Monday, French would neither confirm nor deny the reports that he did not witness the events mentioned in the affidavit.

The Oregon State Bar says they have received enough complaints to look into the matter, with the main question being whether French violated ethics.
