A possible scenario that portrays the end of our democracy
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 04:55 PM by ck4829
OK, Bush gets elected, Once again, he lies, cheats, steals, and kills innocent people to once again become the President.

We get a Trillion dollar deficit (which is very possible)
We go into war with Iran and Syria. We still have skirmishes with Iraq and Afganistan.

While all this is happening, Bush and the Republican Legislature quietly pass a bill thorugh the house and senate, which will amend the amendment which says a President is only limited to two terms.

With a Cheating President and unlimited terms, we will officially have a Dictator running the country.

What are your thoughts?

1. I don't go around saying that but deep down ... it is my secret fear.
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 04:58 PM by meti57b
and on edit:, I might add ... as part of that, at first a lot of the so-called middle class benefit to some extent from what bush does. As the years go by, fewer and fewer of anyone who could be considered "middle class" benefit, then the wealthy but less wealthy no longer benefit, and finally ... only the truly wealthy and super rich have it all and the rest of us have bobkes.

2. It could happen, especially if Bush gets reelected.
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 04:56 PM by Cleita
I don't think he will if the polls are kept honest. However, we really need to start fixing the corruptions in our system during Kerry's term, that brought us to this place so it never happens again.

3. Not quite that easy
They still have to have an amendment ratified by two thirds of the states. And it does have to be an amendment to the constitution, as in the one that repealed Prohibition. I would be a lot more inclined to think that they would simply declare martial law.

4. The can't do it. It takes
either 2/3 or 3/4 of the states to ratify it first before it becomes a change to an amendment or a new amendment. I think it's 3/4 of the states and 2/3 of each house. (without looking)

7. erm, it's already partly done....
I dont' believe for one minute that Bush will be 'losing' this election to Kerry. It will not be gotten rid of, the PNACers have worked too long and too hard to let 'elections' get in the way.

It's a very deep sad feeling for all those that are optimistic and hopeful.. :(

8. I actually EXPECT something like that
even if it isn't that exact scenario.

Think about it:

The Busheviks HATE Democracy and Common people

They have demonstarted their contempt for any rule which stands in their way.

They have successfully merged the Medeval Christians, the Nazis/KKK, and Big Money into a single group.

They have put into place the entire machinery of Totalitarianism and Tyranny, LEGALLY, just like Hitler did.

Hell, I'll be surprised if something like that DOESN'T happen.

9. Apparently, for an Amendment, 2/3's of the States have to ratify it
Who knows?

Maybe Martial Law, Bribes, or something else will come in to play.

11. Hmm. Far more likely scenario
Bush suspends constitution and imposes quasi-martial law regime, although it is questionable whether he has the troop strength to pull it off or whether troops would go along with it.

13. "Bush gets elected" = "End of our democracy"
you don't have to elaborate any further.

14. Can't happen
There is still a Constitution that limits the President to two terms. Of course, nothing is stopping the Jeb era from starting.

16. It takes more than a call for one
Do you understand how next to impossible it is to get an Amendment ratified?
