Just curious about this. Has anyone from DU suggested pooling resources and offering donations in a specific dollar amount in exchange for the same access to politicians or public radio that the corporations have/do?
I'd think that saying, "We'll donate $X to Organizaton in exchange for Politican X engaging in an online dialog on this message board on the topic of X?" or "We'll donate $X to NPR in exchange for having a DU person interviewed on the radio on the topic of X?"
Has this been discussed before?
I know there's a certain amount of dissent on this board on various topics, so it might be more of an individual basis for this kind of thing. I suppose one person could say, "Let's lobby NPR to get the topic of corporate welfare or the Patriot Act (or whatever) debated on air with Politician X and DU member X." Raise some amount of money in an escrow account with the expectation that if NPR does not agree then funds are sent back to the contributor. Or, ask that a candidate add a plank to their platform in exchange for a campaign contribution in some amount.
The corporations do it, why shouldn't we? I wonder if collective lobbying might be more effective than a trickle|river|flood of donations from individuals. I suppose it's possible that politicians might actually seek out DU's support for some position in exchange for donations if it worked in a couple of documented instances.
What do you guys think? Is this worthy of discussion?
