Possible solution to situation in Iraq
1. Allawi (by predetermined agreement) announces to Negroponte he wants the US out of Iraq--now.
2. Negroponte, stunned (by predetermined agreement), agrees to Allawi's demand and the US withdraws, in phases.
3. Nation rallies behind Allawi for his courage and nationalism. Allawi calls for unity in Iraq and offers Al-Sadr a seat on Iraqi Governing Council. After considerable unrest and several years pass the country becomes more or less stable. Hundreds of American lives are saved.
4. US is welcomed back to much controversy, but manageable controversy.

The risk here, obviously, is that Allawi's government crumbles and al-Sadr converts the country into a repressive theocracy, bent on obtaining nukes like Iran. However, in the long run, this is actually a more likely scenario with us staying there and Allawi continuing to be perceived (rightfully) as a US puppet.
