You have got to read "Citizen You!"
It is absolutely priceless. It's by Mike Loew and Joe Garden of "The Onion" and Randy Ostrow. It's 230 pages of cover to cover non-stop anti-Bush satire. It has great quotes, info on the Bush gang and even a section about the upcoming RNC protest. Buy yourself a copy and buy several more for all those Republican friends you are planning to convert. It is available at Barnes and Noble and is published by The New Press, New York.

If you go into Costco, fill out a comment slip demanding they carry this book.

2. And don't forget the amazing -- and deadly serious -- MIHOP section
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 01:06 AM by Newsjock
The end of the book absolutely amazed me! I posted about it during the weekend, but it got lost in the weekend shuffle. Here's what I said:

Citizen You! Helping Your Government Help Itself is a fairly new book (published in July) by Mike Loew and Joe Garden of The Onion, along with film producer Randy Ostrow, all using the pseudonym of the "Better Citizenship Bureau." For most of its 232 pages, it's a very funny, Onion-style satire on our obsession with terror and fear. Text from the cover:

The Ultimate Patriotic Handbook
-- Defend Freedom™ in the homeland
-- Find out if your neighbors are in al-Qaida
-- How to close your small business
-- What will happen if you touch yourself "down there"

The only hint that something is amiss is a small line of text across the top next to an icon of a lit match: Special READ THEN BURN Section -- DANGEROUS 9/11 QUESTIONS

Sure enough, way back on page 195, the yuks abruptly stop, and for 25 pages we get 79 unanswered questions about the events of 9/11. (Well, mostly unanswered -- a couple of them have ostensibly been "answered" since the book went to print.) A couple of examples:

10. If, as is claimed, the hijackers got on board the planes with fake IDs, how does that reconcile with the fact that the real passport of hijacker Satam al-Suqami was found in the rubble of the WTC one day after the attack? ... Why would a hijacker risk blowing his cover by bringing both a fake ID and his real passport on this top secret mission?

66. When Bush and his team took off from the Saratoga Airport in Air Force One at 9:56 a.m., why did they fly off without any military fighter jet escorts?

78. Have the men currently in power been looking forward to something like 9/11 for years? The Project for a New American Century, or PNAC, is a conservative think tank that was formed in 1997. ...

Sure, we've all talked about MIHOP before, but this was just about the last place I was expecting to find it espoused -- in a mass-market "humor" trade paperback down at the corner bookstore!

Darned thing kept me awake half the night.

5. Does anyone know anything about the writers?
The book mentions two of them work for The Onion. I don't read The Onion but the names look familiar.
