3. Expectations game
Remember, going into the debate the President will win as he is the incumbent and has the stature of the office.

Then, coming out, it will make it all the easier to spin a debate win for Kerry. ;)

4. About one year ago, Matthews asked Ed Gillespie if
the president would try to "dodge" the debates. Matthews has had this idea stuck in his head for some time now.

Probably envisions a disaster. Whether it is disastrous or not depends on the format and moderator as I see it. I did like Matthews' choice of words, though. :)
