Jonathan Pollard is Not a Traitor
Jonathan Pollard is Not a Traitor

Justice for Jonathan Pollard (J4JP) applauds the suggestion that those who live in America and who truly care about Israel ought to make Jonathan Pollard's continued incarceration an issue in the upcoming US presidential elections - but not for the reasons suggested in the August 1st op-ed "John, George or Judah?" by Ellen W. Horowitz. Moreover, we strongly deplore the question that this op-ed poses about Jonathan, and the conclusions it draws.

We cringed reading the question, "Is Jonathan Pollard a traitor?" and even more so when we read that any American Jew who thinks so has, by definition, abandoned Israel; and any American Jew who thinks not, ought to immediately make Aliyah to live in Israel.

This cavalier and over-simplified approach to complex issues, no matter how well-intentioned, is erroneous and misleading. While we are certain that there was no intent to harm, the flip way that the question was posed, "Is Jonathan Pollard a traitor?", and then responded to, simply increases public confusion around this issue. For that reason alone, it does a great disservice to both Jonathan Pollard and to Israel.......

2. Not only should Pollard stay in prison
but every last one of those PNAC bastards should be right in the cell with him. Richard Perle was fired by Scoop Jackson for passing state secrets to Israel 30 years ago. What is this fucking double agent doing even walking the streets, let alone openly involved in the governments of TWO countries.

One needs to only read the PNAC agenda and look at the countries they percieve as "threats" to realize where their loyalties are. If that's the case, move to fucking Tel Aviv and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

3. Isn't it convenient for the "J4JP" people...
A traitor, according to American law, is one who serves the enemy or who gives aid and comfort to the enemy in time of war. Israel is not an enemy of the US and the two countries are not at war. Jonathan did not give aid and comfort to an enemy of the US. Nor was Jonathan ever accused, indicted or convicted of treason.

Now, someone like me might ask why was Pollard treated as a traitor, but not charged as one, and come to a totally different conclusion. That conclusion would be that officially charging Pollard with his crime would be an embarrasment to Israel, and thus a deal was done to have Pollard given a life sentence for espionage, rather than treason.

After all, Israel still wants Americans to give money to Israel each year, and that sure wouldn't be helped by having an Israeli agent convicted of treason against the US.

Just like the USS Liberty attack, some things Israel has done have to be covered up by US Israel supporters to avoid having average Americans question their monetary support of a nation that has attacked an killed their sailors, and that has encouraged treason by US citizens.

4. Jonathan Pollard is scum and a traitor
He's right where he belongs and right where he should stay. He betrayed his position in the United States to help a foreign government. A government that was SPYING ON US in spite of the fact that we bankroll their very existence.

5. It's not treason if...
The information he stole wasn't used against the U.S. If I'm not mistaken the information he stole concerned placement of Syrian military units. This was used against Syria and not the U.S. and frankly the people who want him crucified for this only feel that way because they dislike Israel. He should've been punished but the time he's doing all boils down to political correctness.
