Banner raising in NYC.
I just had a great experience today. I work five short blocks from Madison Square Garden. When I went out for lunch I hooked up my iPod with Neil Young playing "Ohio" and started thinking about the repugs coming to town. I turned the corner and saw a large crane over the sidewalk putting up a banner on the side of a building at 7th Avenue and 26th Street. I look up and see them unfurling a banner at least two stories high and half a block wide saying, "Save America, Defeat Bush." And on the sides of the crane are signs saying "Sheetmetal Workers Support John Kerry for President." The banner was put up by a labor organizationn called Unite Here. http://www.unitehere.org/political/

Is this a great city or what? I can't wait for the convention!

1. I hope a bunch of their members don't go nuts and vote REPUB like 2000
that galled me--all the specialized workforces in unions saying they supported Bush over Gore. Idiots.

Sorry. Not meant to be a damper on your post. I'm really happy to see that kind of visible protest against GOP coopting NYC and using it as their party's backdrop for a nauseating 9-11 farce of a memorial.

I hope those union members are with their leadership in understanding the importance of re-defeating Bush
