How about a PICNIC PROTEST in Central Park?
Edited on Tue Aug-17-04 12:24 PM by Melodybe
I mentioned a Central Park sit-in and I was just thinking that the protest could be fun, instead of only angry. Turn the protest into a celebration that Bush will be going back to Crawford in Jan. complete with dancing, blankets, and food.

You can't get more tame than a picnic, and it could be reminisant of a 60's love fest, why not?

2. Neat idea !
My biggest fear is that the repug thugs who are certain to be planted throughout the crowds will succeed in instigating violence.

But how violent can you get, really, when you're sitting on a red-and-white checkered blanket, snacking on sandwiches and enjoying the company of friends? :P

What a statement it would make -- hundreds of thousands of people bringing the city to a standstill... with smiles.

3. I like it
We demonstrated at the 2000 presidential debates in NC.
We marched right up to the gates where riot cops and paddy wagons were lined up, put on a fun puppet show for them and then broke into groups and sat down in circles to discuss ways in which we could improve our democracy and our world. The police relaxed and were amazed. Everyone was calmly sitting, engrossed in facinating and inspirational conversation.

It was the only demonstration of the three debates where there were no arrests or violence. I am still very proud of being part of that!

7. Make your protest sign on a large white (or pink) bed sheet......
.....and lay it out on the grass for your picnic!

We should try to get Air America Radio to do a 'virtual' anti Bush* rally to act as our stage. They could invite people to speak to the crowd and have various bands make 'appearances' via CD's, all to canned cheers and applause. Everyone can 'attend' the rally via portable radios!

We could do this in every market that AAR serves. :)
