Police Use Taser On Man Accused Of Trying To Pass Barrier

Officers in hurricane-ravaged Fort Myers used a Taser gun on a man allegedly trying to get by a police barrier to get home, and it was all caught on tape.

A crowd formed around the scene and voices can be heard yelling, "Leave him alone," "That is so wrong," and "Come on man, he's frustrated."

The man had three children in the car with him. Many in the crowd felt for the man who hasn't seen his home in days.

1. This is an example of why people don't leave.
My relatives refused to leave during Hugo and nearly died. People don't want their homes looted and often when they evacuate, they're not allowed back in for a long time.

Especially now that there is no Nat Guard to speak of patrolling...lots of looting stories popping up.

More cameras need to get down there.

5.  agree
I have been watching this here everyday.........I noticed that the National Guard was not activated until Subday....they should have been there pronto.there were no pictures at all on our local stations and no questions asked Sat or Sun.where were they.....

Now they are showing bits of the Guard men.maybe a group of 5 at a time.......If we had our full members here.they could be here helping out in every area.instead of rebuilding Iraq.......

we have small towns near Arcadia.who are helping themselves and have seemed to fall off the radar screen.as they are in an area of migrant workers......only the neighbors around them are helping.

this totally upsets me and pisses me off at the same time..

12. right you are!
I lived along the coast of Florida for many years..and it is always a toss up as to actually evacuate or not...for one thing, you risk being in your car when it hits which is a lot more dangerous..and then the fear of leaving your house because once you have been through it one time, you learn that it will be days and days and maybe a week or so before they will let you back in to your home..and then you need proof that you actually live in the area. In Flagler County where i lived, they annually distributed "passes" that you were to take with you when you evacuated...so that you could get back in once it was over. It is away a tough call for folks to make that decision to stay or to evacuate...and often wait until it is too late to leave.

2. That is horrible.
That is how I felt yesterday seeing on TV the way they turned people away from ice and food. In Lake Wales they did not have enough volunteers to give it out. Instead of organizing the people to help themselves, they turned them away. They showed the trucks with ice and the people driving away.

4. How are you doing?
Do you have power and water?

You're right...how hard would it be to ask the people in line if someone would volunteer to help? Sheesh.

6. Yes, we are fine here.
There are pockets near us with no power, though. And there is so much devastation that won't be covered, including the emotional kind.

Only about 50% of our county has power restored though, as the eye came over us.

11. They say only 1000. They say we have 8000 in all.
I think they have 6000+ available, as about 1000 are in Iraq.

That is just my memory on what the head here in FL said on TV. I think the other day I said we had 8000 available, but I guess it would be 6000.

7. Typical Bush SS tactics.
You have to remember, that Florida law enforcement is also involved with election fraud and intimidation of voters.

Jeb knows that once a tape like this gets aired, that the "traitorous" residents of Florida who dare vote for somebody else will be on notice.

"Want to vote for Kerry? We'll trump up some charges and do this to you. Remember where we go to school, Abu Gharib is only considered a fraternity prank."

10. The man's damn lucky!
If this had been Iraq, they would have pumped 328 rounds into the carload full of kids too. </sarcasm off>

13. Slowly coming to the conclusion...
...that some folks are just not cut out for police work.

(A little too happy with the taser or pepper spray, and maybe guns).
