"A Central Banker's Nightmare: Inflation and Slow Growth Together"

By PATRICK BARTA
Staff Reporter of THE WALL STREET JOURNAL
August 16, 2004; Page A2

"One of the dirtiest words in the economic lexicon is making the rounds again: stagflation.

Defined as a noxious blend of stagnant growth and rising prices, stagflation last appeared in force in the 1970s, when it bedeviled U.S. policy makers and gradually degraded the standard of living of average Americans. Economists long thought a repeat to be extremely unlikely."

Does this mean that Disco will be making a comeback too?

1. Ah, but they reckoned without our George.
And I remember people saying, "How much harm can he do?"

4. How ironic for me..
My husband and I started out our married life in 1970...launched our careers and our family into that horrible financial time, and now it appears that we will retire into the same damned morass.:(

IMHO if we have stagflation it won't be long before we go straight into recession with spiraling hyperinflation (foreigners dump dollars big time).
