What does Bush have up his sleeve with the troop withdrawal plan ??
Does it have anything to do with Iraq? Or is he trying to intimidate some of our allies into sending troops to help in his war or else he "might" withdraw troops from their countries? Will it really save that much in the budget?? What's the real reason he made this announcement?

1. It has everything to do with Iraq
See, he hasn't overextended us and handicapped the real war on terror by invading Iraq -- we don't need all those troops in Korea anyway.

Riiiiiight!

2. Good question
Asia is already involved in Iraq to some extent. Germany doesn't give a shit if we leave or not. They don't want us there anyway.

Invade Iran: Condo Rice mentioned our 'suspicion' that Iran was inclined to try creating some weapons grade plutonium. There has been some sabre rattling in the news where Iran has shot back with 'Anyone who would attack us would be a fool,' or something to that effect.

Politican reasons: attempting to look strong and decisive during an election year.

Hope: bring in relief for troops stationed in Iraq who have passed their tour of duty already, and pull out the reserves and call-ups who shouldn't be there in the first place.

Brain damage: as good a reason as any.

4. Now that he's uprooted all theses troops
he has to re-root them somewhere. Where does one drop off 70,000 or so people and where are they supposed to live? Do we have enough bases for everyone or are we building them on the fly?

7. He could always
throw them into the compounds he's spent so much of our money on in developing a permanent military presence in Iraq.

5. He is thrashing about ...
Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 03:55 PM by TN al
...trying to find a bone that military families will want to chew on. He hears the complaint about the soldiers having to be in Iraq and away from their families so he thinks if he promises to bring them back from Europe and Korea it will buy back some of the votes he has lost. It is a bad plan and he doesn't realize that Europe just isn't bad duty. You can take your family with you there. My time in Germany was the best time in my military career and the unit I was in was the worst one of my career. Germany made up for the bad unit. His dad thrashed about similarly in 1992 promising anybody anything for their vote. It was more like he was running for alderman than president.

on edit: If you believe any of the crap any bush tries to feed you before an election than you are dumber than W.

6. A hanky full of coke?
I think this is just another calculate campaign ploy, and I don't think people who are undecided at this point are inclined to buy Bush Brand Snake Oil.

8. 6-7,000 per year,big whoop.....
Its their full tilt stategy-- BS for votes. If they do move troops out of a safe location like Germany it will probably be for the sands of Iran if this screw loose gets re-elected.

9. From Saudi Arabia
Why, if that part of the world is so bad, is he taking the troops from Saudi Arabia. I am sure he is going to invade Iran if he wins in Nov. I listened to Rush today, (I know,I know, but I need a laugh sometimes) and he was really bashing Iran and saying how they are why all the fighting is going on in Iraq. They are terrorists. * has to be stopped, I have a 15 year old and don't want him going to fight a oil war.
