Goss’s Wish List - CIA to conduct law enforcement inside the US
Goss’s Wish List

Bush’s CIA nominee has alarmed civil libertarians with a plan that would authorize the agency to arrest U.S. citizens. Plus, the real threat to the Olympic games

Aug. 11 - Rep. Porter Goss, President Bush’s nominee to head the CIA, recently introduced legislation that would give the president new authority to direct CIA agents to conduct law-enforcement operations inside the United States—including arresting American citizens.

The legislation, introduced by Goss on June 16 and touted as an “intelligence reform” bill, would  substantially restructure the U.S. intelligence community by giving the director of Central Intelligence (DCI) broad new powers to oversee its various components scattered throughout the government.

But in language that until now has not gotten any  public attention, the Goss bill would also redefine the authority of the DCI in such a way as to substantially alter—if not overturn—a 57-year-old ban on the CIA conducting operations inside the United States.

The language contained in the Goss bill has alarmed civil-liberties advocates. It also today prompted one former top CIA official to describe it as a potentially “dramatic” change in the guidelines that have governed U.S. intelligence operations for more than a half century.

“This language on its face would have allowed President Nixon to authorize the CIA to bug the Democratic National Committee headquarters,”  Jeffrey H. Smith, who served as general counsel of the CIA between 1995 and 1996, told NEWSWEEK. “I can’t imagine what Porter had in mind.” --- http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5675992/site/newsweek/

1. So, are the Democrats STILL going to ROLLOVER knowing Goss can
conceivably have them all arrested, at the behest of Bush, for just being Democrats?

Loverly!

...process. I think you can count on Goss getting the job even HE says he's not qualified for...

3. Then this should be a fateful question posed to Kerry/Edwards..asap!
asking why they are allowing the violation of our Civil Liberties, if in fact they are the better choice than Bush/Cheney.

7. and further, if Kerry and edwards don't do something to stop Goss's
appointment.

I want to start a letter writing campaign advising Teresa and Kathy to throw them out of bed until they do. We're better off in a matriarchal society anyway.

Democrat Warns Against Fight on CIA Chief

by LEIGH STROPE

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee warned fellow Democrats in the Senate on Sunday against trying to block the nomination of Rep. Porter Goss as CIA director, saying that would be picking the wrong fight in this election year.

Democrats should ask tough questions of Goss, R-Fla., at Senate confirmation hearings next month, but ``my view is this is the wrong fight,'' Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., said on NBC's ``Meet the Press.''

``To get stuck in a fight about Porter Goss after tough questions are asked of Porter Goss is not where we ought to be this fall,'' said Harman, who has no vote on the matter because the Senate confirms presidential nominees.

Goss resigned as chairman of the House intelligence panel last week after President Bush nominated him to replace George Tenet at CIA.

5. More "smart" rollover tactics just like the IWR vote.
Then they will tell us how they were "deceived" by Bush and complain about the new Reichsfuhrer SS's tactics...but not too loudly.

6. Trusting Democrat Disease: "It could never happen here"
Too many Dems buy the War On Terra as advertised, and seem to be blind to the alarming fascist maneuvers being enacted in it's name. On everything from the SCOTUS intervention of 2000 to the IWR vote, we've been rolling over on good faith.
