Conspiracy Theories Thrive During Unprecedented Government Secrecy...
...and a US media news blackout. Virtually everything regarding the 'war on terrorism' has been classified and declared a 'national security' secret. In fact...Bush* scandals that happened BEFORE and AFTER 9-11 have been 'forgotten' in the name of national unity during a 'time of war'.

- What IS a conspiracy?

con·spir·a·cy
n. pl. con·spir·a·cies

1. An agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act.
2. A group of conspirators.
3. Law. An agreement between two or more persons to commit a crime or accomplish a legal purpose through illegal action.
4. A joining or acting together, as if by sinister design: a conspiracy of wind and tide that devastated coastal areas.

- Why are some posters afraid to discuss conspiracies? It's a patriotic duty to talk about things the American media refuses to investigate or report about OUR government. Especially when the government runs the country in secret using a 'time of war' to keep the public in the dark.

- 'Conspiracy theories' have a useful place in an open society that treasures free speech. This is the most secretive, totalitarian government in American history. Keep the Bill of Rights alive by allowing the free flow of information.

3. The TRUTH!!! YOu can't HANDLE the truth!!!!
Edited on Sat Aug-23-03 08:33 PM by Capn Sunshine
That seems to be the message coming from OUR government that WE finance with OUR taxes.

I for one, would like a slightly larger outcry about the SEVERAL TRILLION DOLLARS the Pentagon can't account for the past two years.

Isn't this enough money to balance the budget, yet they ask for MORE than the previous year?
:nuke:

4. The Bushies and their cronies tell us to 'move on'...
...when we hear something suspicious about OUR government. How dare they! We have every right to redress grievances against our government. To peaceable assemble...not be driven into pens like so many sheep and kept away from the object of protest.

- Congressional investigations and hearings regarding the Bush* regime have been virtually shut down. Our representatives are prevented from doing their jobs of keeping the executive branch accoutable with 'checks and balances'. The courts are stacked with Federalist judges assisting the Bushies in hiding the truth. The 'justice' department is headed by a religious zealot more interested in putting pot smokers in jail than corporate and government criminals.

- There should be no such thing as a SECRETIVE government in a democracy.

5. hey, listen
if they want to keep stuff under wraps, then the american public and media is fully justified in assuming the absolute worst about what is being kept hidden.

For example, take Cheney's energy task force. Why, he just had to keep the records under wraps because:

  • they were passing around sacks of cash for political favors
  • Osama bin Laden was an invited guest speaker
  • they had arranged for underage prostitutes to "service" the task force "members" during their meetings
  • they were planning the great rip-off of california, with a followup blackout of the east coast to ratchet up electricity prices
  • they didn't want anyone to know about the goat they sacrificed to Ba'al (okay, so this isn't so bad...)

..oh, and some other minor little stuff like drilling in ANWR.

Go ahead, accuse them of this stuff. They can disprove it if they want, but if they want to keep it hidden, why shouldn't we assume the worst?

6. Anyone who lives in a small town, one where everyone knows
one another knows that the way gossip festers is when someone is being secretive or is hiding things. The best way to stifle gossip is to be open about your business and comings and goings. The truth is always so much duller than the speculation.

However, in the case of our wonderful Government in situ, I think the truth is going to be really strange when we finally get at the truth. There are some very strange loose ends that don't make sense.

7. "Why are some posters afraid to discuss conspiracies? "
Do you remember when you found out that Santa Claus was not real? Up until that point in your young life, you looked forward to this magical man bringing your most wished for goodies to your home, down through your chimney and placing them under your Christmas tree on Christmas day.

Then you found out that it was all a fanciful story. You had to start living in reality. You had to change your mindset.

IMHO, many people would rather believe their government (Santa), than to live in reality and have to question the fanciful stories the government hands out.

It takes hard work and takes an open mind to go against the fanciful stories our government feeds us. It is much easier on the brain to simply accept and not question.

The lack of intellectual curiousity of many people astounds me. Maybe because I was not allowed to ask the many "Whys" all three year olds do, I am making up for it well into my forties and will continue to do so until the day I die.

Where would we be like as a planet, if Galileo, Newton, Franklin or Edison, to name a few, din't question the status quo of their times?

The official story of 9/11 has so many holes in it, it insults my intelligence. I do not accept it. Furthermore, how am I or anyone else to get to the truth w/o questioning the official story?

If it makes you (the offical story accepter) feel safer, keeps you from having to tax your brain too much, or allows you to remain in a childlike believing in Santa mindset, then by all means, believe it.

I choose not to.
I choose to question.

8. I'm with you
I am pissed that they think I am so ignorant or so stupid not to realize who really benefits from 9/11. That day I knew that only Bush-or whoever controls him-are the obvious benefactors.

9/11 was, at worst, a pre-emptive strike. We were going into Afghanistan, regardless. Just like Iraq. It was a fait accompli.

It is all about oil. And if you think times are bad now? Just wait.

11. How many press conferences has Junior held?

Some DUers have as much of an aversion to direct questioning as Junior has.

12. Bush* is like the crazy aunt/uncle in the attic...
...that no one likes to talk about in polite company. Many Americans don't care if he's crazy as long as he delivers the goods to the right wing. Bush* may be the most universally hated president*...but he's a 'godsend' to those who believe our nation should be ruled by God and the wealthy class. (Not necessarily in that order).

- The Neocons love Bush* because he's like Reagan in that he takes orders and pretends not to know anything. He's the perfect puppet president for those really in control of the United States.
