Change negative direction of our nation by electing Kerry, Knowles

Becoming a parent clarifies one's politics. My sons are age 21/2 and 4 months old. I look at my two young sons and fear for their future. On every front it seems the Bush administration and its Republican congressional allies are compromising the welfare not only of America today but also of the country my boys will inherit.

For the benefit of our wealthiest citizens and corporations, and for reasons never fully explained, we went to war without justification, turned a budget surplus into the largest deficit in history, alienated the rest of the world, fueled the recruitment of terrorists, gutted environmental laws, walked away from international treaties, assaulted rights guaranteed by our Constitution, abandoned the poorest among us, placed ideology above science, and did it all with a callousness and mean-spiritedness that has often been shocking. For our security and that of our children, we must have a dramatic change in direction. Putting John Kerry in the White House and Tony Knowles in the Senate will be a start.
