So was McGreevy a good governor?
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 06:48 PM by mountainvue
New Jerseyites? Within an hour I had a little freeper yelping:

"It's sad for his family but he's done nothing for this state but cause problems and piss away our money on bullshit since he's been elected so I'm not too dissapointed that he'll be stepping down."

Anyone have a list of the governor's accomplishments?

1. Piss away the money?
Noooo, hardly. He was left with an illegal(under the state constitution) defecit, by Christy Whitman(R-Tewksbury Inn Happy Hour) that he had to, by law, resolve to non-existance.

But the repuke scumbags just never mention that.

Drill down into this thing, over the coming months, and you will find the leprous fingerprints of US Attorney Christopher Christie(R-Gubernatorial Aspirations and Not Shy About Them) all over this thing. Mark my words.

2. He walked into a state treasury that was $5B in debt,
And rather than raising middle class taxes, is closing the debt with taxes on casinos, cigarettes, and the very wealthy.

3. Thanks orlandoFL.
Said freeper also posted this:

Fact: NJ had the highest tax hike of any state in the country last year.

4. Tell the maroon...
To take his New Jersey Network-created bullshit to 1-800-BLAMECHRISTYSHEDIDIT. And then go get his head massaged and tenderized at The Cluestick Massage Parlor on Route 9 in Belleville.

8. A MAN'S OR WOMAN'S SEXUAL PREFERENCE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW WELL
OR NOT THEY DO THEIR WORK...but prejudice and ignorance grab at anything that is intimidating to spill out their poison. The intimidating thing about homosexuality is that according to CARL JUNG homosexuality resides in every woman or man -- it may never develop -- but it can, given the right mix of ingredients.

How truly, truly sad! when a society has to judge a man or a woman by whom he, or she, chooses to share his/her bed with.

For, after all the important thing is to know who YOU would chose to be your bedroom partner -- if YOU ARE CLEAR ABOUT YOUR OWN SEXUALITY NO ONE ELSE'S SEXUALITY SHOULD MAKE A HILL OF BEANS DIFFERENCE TO YOU.

And, really, in the scale of public morality, shouldn't the debt created and passed on by Christy Todd Whitman carry greater weight than the current governor's sexual preference?
:)

12. No. I was talking to people like Rick Santorum and all those who condemn
Edited on Fri Aug-13-04 02:43 AM by flordehinojos
homosexuality. and I was pointing out that, according to Carl Jung, there is a potential for homosexuality inside every man and every woman's psyche, which may develop in some cases given the right set of circumstances, and in some cases not.

People like Rick Santorum condemn homosexuals because they are afraid of their own SHADOW SIDE, their own dark side which they have not made fully conscious, which, then, when they see it in others, it becomes a threat to their own selves and they must fight against it in those OTHERS, rather than in their inner self by trying to become a more complete, more connected with the self, human being.

(Life would be so much simpler if we would keep the battles with our own inner ghosts and darker side within our selves) rather than projecting them out onto others and fighting them in the person of those others.

I also meant that if YOU (meaning ANY ONE IS sure of THEIR) sexual preferences--what is the point of being afraid of, or having to condemn anyone else for their sexual preferences.

ANYHOW, DON'T KNOW IF THIS MAKES WHAT I WAS SAYING ANY CLEARER.

11. You are completely missing the point here . . .
The current governor's sexuality has nothing to do with his departure from office. In fact, his little charade today was an insulting pile of crap.

For this guy to stand up there today and use his homosexuality to hide the REAL reasons behind his resignation is a f#cking disgrace, and an insult to every homosexual in this country who manages to live his or her life -- either openly or in secret -- without breaking the law or skirting the bounds of ethical conduct.

I'm as liberal as most other folks here, but I knew this guy was bad news a long time ago -- for reasons that had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with his homosexual affair.

13. Yes, I was addressing his departure from office as presented by himself
and the darling media. But just think of what they did to Bill Clinton over Monica Lewinsky and imagine what they could do to this guy over a type of relationship which these days has been turned by Republicans into witch hunts.:)

9. short answer
no

he has been trying to fix whitman's mess, but he's got a pretty corrupt administration (nowhere near shrubs though)

not horrific, not great...the resignation is what will earn him a spot in history

14. I disagree. I think he was doing incredible things with the tax code....
...and had a real committment to wisely investing the tax revenue was was raising from reapportioning the incredible tax burden on the middle class (which he inherited) into a fairly apportioned burden on the wealthy.

I thought the one or two allegations of corruption were laughable, considering the NJ governments (Dem and Repub) which preceded his.

I really think big business had him in the crosshairs because he was undoing a lot of the shit the Republicans had done to increase their profits via the tax code.
