Today I ran over to Target on my lunch break.
Of course, I wore my anti-Bush button (as I do everywhere). The girl who checked me out was young and pretty-- just the type of girls I'm interested in educating about choice.
Good girl! She asked me about the button. I asked her if she was registered to vote, not knowing her inclinations. She said no, but that she had just turned 18 (bingo!) and was going to go pick up a form this week.
I said, "here, let me help you out" and pulled a voter registration card out of my purse. She thought that was soooo cool that I would do that for her.
I thought a minute (since we were right on the line for 2 counties) and asked her if she lived in Dallas or Collin county. When she said Dallas, I told her I could do it right there. I pulled to the side and pulled out a green form to fill out.
Well then, of course her line suddenly got swamped. I ended up having to leave her the white form instead to send in later so I wouldn't get her in trouble with her boss, but she asked me if I was volunteering for the Democratic party. I said yes, and she got even more excited.
She said, "I don't know much between the 2 parties, but I know I want to vote Democrat."
"Smart girl!" I said, I told her she needs to come to my party a bring a few friends. She's going to SMU, so should have lots of potential girlfriend voters. I gave her the information for my party and got her e-mail. I just sent her more details a few minutes ago.
Damn that felt good! FSC
