Didn't we drop an atomic bomb on Japan? What was in it fertilizer?

This is a joke I had just heard on HBO Comedy. The show name was Rodney Dangerfield but it was another person up on the stage.

The man started the disgusting thought by: "I was traveling in CA. Where the heck did all the Japanese come from? Didn't we drop an atomic bomb on Japan? What was in it fertilizer?"

And many many people laughed. It turned my stomach and I couldn't finish dinner. What a sick nation we've become!

But the short answer to the "joke" is: They were all kept safe from the A-bomb in the Camps.
