What will happen on DU on election night if Kerry wins?
I predict massive hysteria with every post being about Kerry, a few freepers sneaking on trying to talk shit and possibly a server crash from an overload of people on DU, thought I hope not.

because I'll be partying in the streets if Kerry wins, and if he doesn't...well, I don't even want to think about that.

if not then take to the streets
If Kerry "loses" this election we have to get out there. There's no way we can let them steal it again. The world might not survive it.

18. It's good to be prepared, either way.
I think Kerry will win. But I don't think the GOP is going down without a fight. Something is bound to happen. Ideally, Kerry would win by such a wide margin over Dubya that any attempt by the Republicans to subvert the will of the people would result in a massive backlash against them. More likely, we'll have an outcome similar to Bush vs. Gore in 2000, with the outcome hinging upon a few hundred votes, creating a situation that could remain uncertain for days. Our best hope is that Kerry and his campaign are ready for a genuine knock-down-drag-out fight against the BFEE, and won't throw in the towel the way Gore did.

No one wants to think about what will happen if Bush gets another 4 years, because the past four have been so bad. Of course, if Bush does win somehow, there'll surely be more wars for oil in the Middle East, THE DRAFT will return, more terrorism, more environmental destruction, more unemployment, more skyrocketing health care and tuition costs, more crumbling infrastructure, more corporate looting and megacorp monopoly mergers, more erosion of our rights and the conversion of the American Republic into a full-scale perma-paranoid police state. And that's just the "good" news.

Another four years of Bush will probably press the world to take drastic measures to check Pax Americana imperialsm. More companies may choose to trade in Euros rather than U.S. Dollars, resulting perhaps in a series of crushing blows to the U.S. economy. We could eventually be facing massive unemployment (20 to 30% or more). There may even be severe and crippling economic sanctions if the Bush regime becomes too frighteningly Hitlerian. ALL of this to maintain our dependency upon dwindling supplies of a natural resource.

As grim as all of this sounds, the light at the end of the tunnel may very well come by 2008. By then people may have finally had their fill of scum like Bush and Cheney, and will be more than willing to hand these fuckers, along with Wolfowitz, Perle and the rest of the Straussian Neo-Cons, plus Tom DeLay and every other Republican, over to the ICC at the Hague to stand trial for crimes against humanity. A radicalized Democratic Party could take back both houses of Congress, plus the Presidency, in a landslide victory. Meanwhile, the Republican Party may wind up so divided against itself, thanks to Bush, that it may remain inept, demoralized and relatively powerless for a generation or more.

41. if Bush wins, 2008 will be too late.
As much as I'd like to envision that "light at the end of the tunnel" of which you speak, I have strong doubts. First of all, if Americans aren't outraged by now, what makes you think they'll be any more outraged after four more years of it?

But the most important thing, the thing you leave out, is the Supreme Court. If Bush wins, he gets to appoint 2 or even 3 justices and then it's lights out. Game over. He won't make the mistake of his dad and accidentally appoint a moderate, either. Once that happens, this country is pretty well doomed for at least a generation or two.

But other than that, I think your description of a second Bush term is right on.

49. Maybe. But there always remains a breaking point.
I've often wondered if it might very well take all of our worst nightmares playing out under a Bush-GOP-dominated government to finally burn into the American consciousness once and for all, the utter and complete moral, social and intellectual bankruptcy of American-style neo-fascism/corporatism. Look at what Naziism did for Germany, although by no means whatsoever am I wishing for that to happen here. However, similar to the world's reaction to Hitler's regime in Germany, if America won't boot the destructive Bush regime come this November, the entire world might very well intervene to do it for us. Economically, at least.

and celebrating with the local activists. During the Iowa primaries, Du had the most up to date info. If it's close I'll probably head home after the polls close and I'll hang with my Du buds. Try to get some sleep and head back to celebrate with folks.

17. I'll be at Erskine Bowles campaign headquarters...partying my *** off!!
All NC DUers need to get together and celebrate that night at Bowles campaign headquarters....or wherever the party is going to be! If the party is going to be in Raleigh (pretty sure), I live just north of there, and will be glad to offer a futon or two to NC DUers from out of town after the party!!

We can celebrate Kerry/Edwards, and ALL the winning Dems!! But somebody HAS to videotape the chimp's concession speech -- if he even has the decency to show up for the cameras and give one!!! I'm going to want to watch it over and over again!!!!

ORGY late into the night! :grouphug:

Followed by one very long morning of praying to the porcelain bowl god. :hurts:

After recovery, we jump into our cars and meet up with fellow DU'ers who live close to us. And we  all night long!

Most likely to be followed by :hurts: again. But heck, after four years of *, we deserve all the hangovers we can dish out to ourselves!

Any takers? ;)

Glad to have you on board. I think another way of saying "If Kerry wins" is "If Bush doesn't steal the election". Also, for the past three and a half years we've been fed so many lies, nothing surprises us.As my mother used to say, "Always expect the worst and you won't be disappointed"!
