Outsourcing T-shirts now on e-bay
Edited on Mon Aug-09-04 02:51 PM by wyethwire
You may remember that Bush administration economist Gregory Mankiw claimed that "outsouricing is good"

Now we find out that GOP Senate candidate Jim DeMint made his campaign t-shirts in Honduras, where workers labor in sweatshop conditions for 55 cents an hour.

South Carolina Democrats are fighting back. We are selling t-shirts that highlight this message of outsourcing.

The GOP sent my job to Honduras and all I got was this lousy T-shirt.

1. These shirts were worn at a Cheney protest
Cheney did a fundraiser for DeMint in Spartanburg, South Carolina today.

We had about 50 people on hand to protest.

4. Made in the USA
The shirts were made by Jensen Activewear in Norfolk, Virginia.

The Americans who made these shirts are paid a living wage.

The workers in Honduras who made DeMint's shirts are paid only 55 cents an hour.

3. I'd love to know how much they paid
for these outsourced screen printed t-shirts?

I am sure that they could have had them printed locally for the same price or possibly cheaper.

I'm a screen printer. I know for a fact, they could not have saved very much money outsourcing this sort of work.

6. one of Demint's excuses
is that free trade is good for consumers because it lowers the cost of goods.

But wouldn't you rather pay 50 cents more for a t-shirt is it meant that your neighbor still had a job?

your sliding door to steal your tv..because he can't find a job..:)

This is the part of outsourcing that never gets understood..

It's all connected..

No jobs, means angry kids who have no money to spend, so they turn to pranks and petty theft..

Mom & dad don't have "extra" money to give them..

,,,that creates a need for MORE money to be spen to put them through the justice system..

...more money to build McPrisons to hold them..

all that means less money than ever to provode services that could help them prepare to become adults..

It's not "soundbyte" material, so it never gets discussed..
