Yowza! Texas repukes want to eviscerate the ADA
Americans with Disabilities Act, that is. And it's not just one or two fringe whackjobs, either. It's in the official party platform:

http://www.adawatch.org/TexasAction.htm

http://www.texasgop.org/library/RPTPlatform2004.pdf

Furthermore, the GOP platform politicizes the ADA, a nonpartisan law, by trying to associate it with hot button issues and seeking to "exclude" categories such as "homosexual practices" that are NOT – and never were – covered by the ADA

Page 14 of the 2004 Texas State Republican Party Platform reads:

Americans with Disabilities Act – The Party supports amendment of the Americans with Disabilities Act to exclude from its definition those persons with infectious diseases, substance addiction, learning disabilities, behavior disorders, homosexual practices and mental stress, thereby reducing abuse of the Act.

"Homosexual practices"?! Does that mean that homosexuality is a disability? Or that all people with disabilities are homosexual? And if so, where's my toaster?!

Maybe next year they can work on repealing the Fourteenth Amendment. Morans.

I still want my toaster, dadgumit! :-)

2. Actually, if you look at each state's GOP platform
you'll see that each of them has some pretty whacked out stuff in it.

5. That is correct. Give that man a silver dollar!
Actually, Bush (the elected one) was about to veto the ADA, because (surprise!) he thought it was too burdensome on business.

Then Bob Dole stepped in and twisted his arm (sorry), pointing out that this was major civil rights legislation. Typical conservative: he never gave a hoot about anybody else's issues, just the one that affected him personally,

6. The whole Texas GOP contingent needs
to be beaten so badly in this election that they don't dare to think about grabbing power for another generation.

Delay, *, all of them need to lose so badly they crawl back under that rock in the Texas oil ooze from whence they came.

7. Recently I heard why gays want marriage rights...
So that they can be given "minority status" somehow. Repugs are truly outside the real world.

I'm also bothered by the fact that they want to exclude people with infectious diseases, learning disabilities, behaviour disorders and mental stress as having a disability.

Unless you're white, hetero and rich they're simply saying "screw you"!

9. They really are Victorians
they just aren't aware of it.

No form whatsoever of social safety net.

Work houses for the poor or other undesirables.

Disabled and mentally ill, and mentally challenged put in sanitariums and not seen as responsible, sentient people.

8. I'm sure it's just a coincidence...
"...exclude from its definition those persons with infectious diseases, substance addiction... homosexual practices"

Of new (HIV/AIDS) infections among men in the United States, CDC estimates that approximately 60 percent of men were infected through homosexual sex, 25 percent through injection drug use, and 15 percent through heterosexual sex. Of newly infected men, approximately 50 percent are black, 30 percent are white, 20 percent are Hispanic, and a small percentage are members of other racial/ethnic groups.(4)

Of new infections among women in the United States, CDC estimates that approximately 75 percent of women were infected through heterosexual sex and 25 percent through injection drug use. Of newly infected women, approximately 64 percent are black, 18 percent are white, 18 percent are Hispanic, and a small percentage are members of other racial/ethnic groups.
