1. TWO?
I heard about Zell Junior from Louisiana, but hadn't heard of the other one.

This was a calculated move to wait until after the filing deadlines to prevent Democratic candidates from even having a shot -- it's a fraud against the voters in those districts. If they want to switch parties, fine -- that's not what I have a problem with. I have a problem with them waiting until it would be impossible for the Democrats to put a new candidate in their spot prior to the election.

3. Probably were promised some influence and voice by Repubs
Dems are very frustrated with their powerless position in Congress. These conservative Dems probably couldn't resist Repub offers to give them some clout if they switched parties. It is hard to win re-election if you can't bring home the bacon. Repubs control the bacon right now.

Welcome to Blue Dog Democrats

So you thought only republicans could be conservative? Well let us introduce ourselves. We are the Blue Dog Democrats. A coalition of conservative & moderate democrats. The coalition was originally formed in the 104th congress as a policy-oriented group to give moderate & conservative Democrats in the House of Representatives a common sense, bridge-building voice within the Institution.

5. Yep. This is like realizing that you're losing the war so you
call back all the moles to fight on the front. Last ditch effort.

7. here is what I found so far
one of them is Rodney Alexander from Louisiana 5th district he switched at the last minute giving no time for a Democrat to run against him talk about dirty. I hope he enjoys this because it's not going to last for him.
Seems to me old Rodney is catching hell from the Democrats as he should turncoat and coward are some of the choice words used in this article.

Democrats call La. congressman a 'coward' for switching to GOP

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/politics/20040807-0316-louisiana-congress.html

So who is the second? It can't be Zell Miller he's in the Senate not the House of Reps. and he has kept the D behind his name.

9. Ralph Hall
WASHINGTON — Texas Rep. Ralph Hall (search) switched parties Friday night, filing for re-election as a Republican after nearly a quarter-century as one of the most conservative Democrats in Congress.

"I've always said that if being a Democrat hurt my district I would switch or I would resign," Hall said in an interview with The Associated Press. He said GOP leaders had recently refused to place money for his district in a spending bill and "the only reason I was given was I was a Democrat."

In an interview in which he said he had filed to run as a Republican, he also said he didn't agree with "all these guys running against the president."

Hall's switch marked the first fallout from a GOP-led drive — bitterly contested by Democrats — to remake Texas' congressional districts more to their liking. Party strategists contend they can gain five or more seats through a mid-decade redistricting, a change that could greatly strengthen their grip on power in the House.

:grr: notice how both of these jerks did this on a Friday last minute afternoon?

I went looking for a web page for Zelma "Tisa" Blakes that's running as a Democrat in the Louisiana 5th district No web page, she needs one quick!

Here is what I found and it's taken from Louisiana Sec. of State Filing Database.

Zelma "Tisa" Blakes, Democrat, Filed:08/05/04 1544 Frenchmans Bend
Rd.,Monroe, LA 71203, 318/325-0406

16. Odd. I thought Hall switched a while ago.
He certainly hasn't been voting with the Dems in ages. A lesser version of Zell Miller.

Good riddance.

8. it should be illegal to "switch" parties if you are running
the core premise of a multi-party system is that you have viable candidates. Infiltrating them with republicans and playing these kinds of games violates the most basic tenet of a democracy -- our vote.

I can't think of anything more treasonous and anti-American than to disenfranchise Americans of their vote by playing political games -- our ability to vote is what defines us as Americans.

10. Good! It's where they belong. And, a good sign for our party.
The rightwingers move to the party they belong in because the Democratic Party is moving left.

And get back to the things that our party truly believes in.

22. It is a sign that Republican control of Congress is in danger.
Hence some of the hole cards have to be turned up. The last thing
the ruling elites want is John Kerry elected in a landslide with control of
both houses; they might actually have to do something.
