What's up with Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz?
My so asked yesterday about them, they seem to have fallen into the woodwork. Rummy had never found a camera he didn't love, but now nada.

Should we worry about their health?

2. Their stock has fallen.
I think GOP has rightley identified Rummy and Wolf as part of the reason W's ratings are in the tank. Dick, Rummy and Wolf would all be gone but the GOP knows that if they clean house before election that woudl signal failure. If drwadfully W gets relected Dick, Rummy and Wolf will go away slowly in order for the 'New' GOP leadershi to take over such as Ruddy.

3. rummy is now associated with Abu Ghraib and the "abuse/torture"
debate. With the child/rape story simmering just below the mainstream media's radar (they are holding it down and trying to drown it I'm sure) they are letting Rummy nowhere near a camera. I can hear the heartless bastard now "We're children abused? You bet. But we don't call it rape, because they were insurgent children."

5. Unlikely....
Neocons have a lot of power within this administration. You are suggesting a dismantling of PNAC and that is highly unlikely. You are also suggesting a shift within the party from a neo to paleoconservative view, and I just don't see any evidence of that....

As far as Rudy goes, the is just a guy who loves to have his face in the camera and does not represent "family values" look at his adulterous behaviour...

8. Their popularity has fallen. Their power is unchanged.
They have left the TV screen, but they are still in office.

If Jesus Churchill gets another term, he will interpret it (like he does with everything else) as a mandate to carry on with his extremism. He might like a fresh face, but he won't be able to get a confirmation on anyone else he'd really want.

6. Wolfie's new girlfriend
Strange bedfellows? Wolfowitz has Arab feminist girlfriend

http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-iwolf02.html

<snip> His closest companion is a middle-age Arab feminist whose views on instilling democracy in her native Middle East have helped bolster his resolve. Shaha Ali Riza is a senior World Bank official who was born in Tunis and grew up in Saudi Arabia.

Close acquaintances of the couple have said she is romantically linked with Wolfowitz, 61, a fellow divorcee with whom she has been friends for several years.

Even by the discreet standards of Washington's inner circle, it is a closely guarded secret. They rarely demonstrate affection publicly, according to friends. <snip>

9. A relevant article I read on that...
http://english.pravda.ru/world/20/91/368/13435_Rumsfeld.html

Rumsfeld is laying low these days
07/19/2004 13:50
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, Bush"s witch finder general, whose face was in the news almost daily, is suddenly very quiet.
Rocked by the scandals of the Iraq prisoners abuse, and his handling of the Iraq conflict, has seemingly become a liability. No longer is his face broadcast over the television news networks as it once was.

11. So we aren't the only ones to have noticed.
If they have to hide everyone who is a disgrace then there won't be many to represent them.

16. They are trying to bury the whole Iraq War until after the election, as
much as possible. Hence no "Meet The Press" face time for Rummy, Wolfowitz for a while. They realize the issue is a loser/albatross for them and would make it "go away" if they could. They are trying to do just that, in a media way, as hard as they can.
