Listen up!!!! Really infiltrated a RW "strategy" meeting in VA.
The title of the meeting was something like "Conservatives for Jesus."
And like the Falwell strategy of actually being a political campaign strategy meeting, these people are hiding behind the cloak of "religion" to keep from paying taxes and to skirt the campaing laws.

At this meeting, "Jesus" was never even mentioned. It was all about planning on organizing for 800,000 - 1,000,000 right wingers to converge on Washington, DC near election time to campaign for Bush. This group's keynote speaker will be Pat Robertson and his main agenda is to remove at least two liberal SCOTUS members and/or appoint two right wingers to replace the two retirees that they know are coming during a second Bush term. The meeting was cloaked in secrecy and I received an invitation by accident...some name screw up...someone with my name had contributed a large sum of money to the Bush campaign and the 700 Club. It was unbelievable what these people are planning and they are getting around the separation of church and state issue. I tell you, we need to stop paying so much attention to Bush's slip of the lips and more attention to what is really taking place in this country. We will be no better off (except for our distributed wealth) than Afghanistan under the Taliban. You won't know what hit you. These people are serious, fierce, shrewd, and evil and the media is playing a large role in this by being on-board for the big event and not exposing what is going on now. I tell you, you need to be very afraid. The stuff that went on in FL in 2000 will be small potatoes to what is in store for us in November of this year. Keep your eyes and ears open....the funddies are coming and they will make friends with people they actually hate to use their vote for November.

44. I agree with you
I am from Bible-thumping TN and ill tell you right now that these people scare the hell out of me. They think Bush is bringing about the battle for armeggeddon. there are approximately 90 million of them in the country of voting age. Every Sunday before the November they assemble and discuss how "homos" and "liberals" are ruining America and register their people to vote (for Bush). Bush's team knows this which is why they are moving even farther to the right (read gay marriage). Rove knows that if he can get half of them out to vote, they've got a good shot at winning the election. If they can get 70% turnout, we're sunk, because the center-left democratic party has no group in this country that will vote en masse like that.

46. They don't just "think" he's bringing about that battle
They actively want him to do it.

Their fervent hope is that Jesus will come back to earth and take them away to Heaven, which of course is a place where liberals are banished and the "nig'ras" know their place. Leaving them nothing to do but sit around all day and tell Jesus how great He is.

What's going to happen if Sergeant Sanders was right? Sergeant Sanders was one of the supply sergeants we had at Campbell. (Ask me about Sergeant Sanders and the KKK rally sometime.) He was a black guy from New York City, and he claimed that Jesus was a black man because "you can't come from Africa and be white."

Jesus the Black Liberal would really tweak their noses.

Yeah, these people are fuckin' scary. They won't buy from non-Christians, they don't want anyone to hire non-Christians, they think liberals should be executed in painful ways. And one of their number is in the Oval Office.

We've talked about how maybe a president should serve one long term. Bush is proof that the current system is just great.

55. Jesus can't be white
I make that argument too...

Remember, LAST TIME, the Creator of the Universe chose to reveal himself not by assuming a form of obvious power, something or someone who could not be ignored or defeated. He did not appear as a scion of the greatest power of that time. No, He chose to manifest an Aspect of Himself under outwarly scandalous circumstances as the son of a humble tradesman in a fractious, "foreign" province of the greatest power of that time. In fact, possible only the second-greatest power, depending on how you compare Rove vs. Han Dynasty China.

In the First Coming, Jesus wasn't a Roman citizen. Given that precedent, why would anyone think that in the Second Coming he'd be a white American?

It's an argument that gets plenty of "unchristian" responses...

33. The Soviets?!
Have you actually talked to any Russians who lived through the Purges or read any of the reports that have come out since? Stalin murdered millions of believers just because they wouldn't renounce their faith (not just Orthodox Christians but Jews, Muslims, and even neo-pagans), locked up family members of believing artists and poets (like Anna Akhmatova) in an effort to silence them, and destroyed many houses of faith. Death on that scale is okay with you? Oh, it's okay as long as it's the "weak and IQ challenged" believers?

The babushka I lived with in Russia lost her father, an Orthodox priest, to the Purges, and you should have heard her talk about Stalin. All told, about 20 million were murdered, with ramifications that are still being dealt with today, like Chechnya. He sent the KGB to Chechnya and rounded up all the Chechens in three days, sending them to Siberia. Only 10% survived and then came back to find Russians in their homes and their mosques burned to the ground or turned into storage space. If you think that has nothing to do with what's going on there today, you're mistaken.

The problem of religion is more nuanced and complex than you make it out to be.

41. Actually...
...My wife is Russian, so yes, we've had many discussions.

The point is, religion has never accomplished a damned thing other than holy wars and keeping a desperate people content in their suffering while waiting for pie in the sky when they die (as well as being used as the device to turn working class heartlanders against their own interests).

So, yes, I stand by my point, even though I wouldn't choose the methods employed in your post, the spirit of the marxist analysis of religion is spot on, and I would certainly make sure that organized religion had no place in my perfect world.

42. Okay
I'm sorry if I came off too "rant-y." I was just shocked that anyone would condone killing millions just because they don't like their religion, which now I understand you don't. When I read your post, though, it did make me wonder how people here would have reacted if you had said Hitler instead.

I do respectfully disagree with your take on organized religion. The original American Progressive movement came right out of churches, and because of that, we have had many regulations put into place (of course, now Bush wants to get rid of those, which means we need to rise up again). Many believers of all faiths have worked to make life better for all, and I don't think that's meaningless.

BTW, not everyone who believes is weak or has a low IQ: Einstein and Newton never gave up on their faiths, no matter how much they learned--in fact, they both said that their studies strengthened their faiths, and they both belonged to organized religion. Personally, I have found that organized religion, Eastern Orthodox Christianity, has enriched my life and helped me become a better fighter against the establishment.

10. Lottie, some suggestions:
Edited on Sat Aug-07-04 10:33 AM by iconoclastic cat
1. Write down everything that happened--from your invite up to now--in as much detail as possible. Be careful when trying to quote people; you may want to stay indirect about it, or at least explain that you are going from memory.

2. Definitely contact Will Pitt at TruthOut, but I suggest contacting the Kerry/Edwards campaign as well--although I suspect that they are already well aware of this situation.

3. Try to stay in their circle. Join up, get in, make friends. You obviously had enough time on your hands to go to this thing in the first place, so go ahead and become DU Agent 001! Go to their other get-togethers, worship Cthulhu or whoever, and write it all down. You could be our very own Bob Woodward!

4. Get some good spy music for your mp3 player: I recommend anything by Gas Huffer, "Naked City" by John Zorn, "Doppelganger" by Curve, "Reality" by Bowie, and whatever you can find by Stiff Little Fingers.

Have fun! I look forward to hearing more about this.

11. Religion tied to politics is a dangerous combination in America
Edited on Sat Aug-07-04 10:31 AM by linazelle
I happened to listen to Wisconsin's religious/political radio station yesterday because it's the default station when my satellite radio is out of range.

The conversation was sickening. One woman said her son was fired for his outspoken political activities at work. They advocated and promoted buying the Swift Boat book against Kerry's military record and talked of getting the author on their show. They repeatedly aired Sharon Stone's recent comments about Bush's censorship which kept her from kissing Halle Berry in Catwoman.

On the one hand they want to legislate their own morality--but they look the other way when attacking people like John Kerry who served the military they claim to support.

They hysterically pointed out repeatedly that if they don't do something, their rights and their voices will be taken away.

What's striking about that is that's the same way we feel. How can that be? Are we on course for out and out civil war?

This is perhaps one of the most critical times in our nation’s history. We now know that we not only have enemies outside our country, but we are under attack by the enemies within our nation who do not hold the Christian values America was founded on. Repentance and prayer are the key ingredients that will bring healing to our land as we are told in II Chronicles 7:14. There will also be prayer teams in Washington DC several days leading up to the event and we are encouraging 40 days of fasting and prayer prior to October 22nd so that we may usher in the presence of God on the national mall. Your participation as a Christian leader is greatly valued and necessary for the success of this prayer gathering.

NOTE:

...WE ARE UNDER ATTACK BY THE ENEMIES WITHIN OUR NATION WHO DO NOT HOLD THE CHRISTIAN VALUES AMERICA WAS FOUNDED ON.

40. My problem with politics in churches is that ...
the political pushers in the church assume that everyone shares their ultra-right views. I left a church about a decade ago because my affiliation with the Democratic party was being equated with anti-Christianity.

You know, it's bad that they don't see that they hurt some of their members with their church-pew activism. I don't do organized religion anymore because of it.

so-called "moderate" republicans get nauseated. It completely flies in the face of the BS "Big tent" crappo they're trying to float with their convention. I'd be really surprised if Karl Rove would allow Robertson to do anything too high-profile for Bush before the election.

Which is not to say I don't think the theocretins and the Christian fundies aren't dangerous-- I think wild-eyed religious extremism is far and away the biggest threat to liberty worldwide, and certainly in this country.

'One Nation Under G.O.D'=Guns, Oil, and Drugs

Gawd my species scares the shit out of me. Opposable thumbs should come with a competency test for ownership.

56. You sure it wasn't the Christian Coalition? (see link below)
They are having a big conference in D.C. Sept 24 & 25:
"Road to Victory 2004. The Largest Pro-family conference in America"
http://www.cc.org/rtv/index.shtml

I sure wish some of our so-called "liberal" media would bother to go to some of the sessions and report them verbatim. I'm sure there's some creepy stuff that CC doesn't want mainstream Christians hearing.
