My Friends, I call for patience and strength...
The battle has begun earlier than usual. They are flooding the airwaves with their political ads. They have all their talking points in all the right hands. They are offensive and they are on the offensive. There are 87 days to victory. We must understand the nature of this battle.

We will defeat them. We will not surrender a moment to the fascists that would destroy our country and our lives and enslave us all in their nationalistic and partisan campaign for corporate greed. We will preserve enough strength to continue this struggle. Our only option at this time is to defeat them at the polls in November or to fight them in the streets in January. We will celebrate when the enemy is defeated. Yes, they are our enemies. They are no longer a simple political opponent. That is what we facing.

1. I agree with you. Whether the polls have us ahead, behind or even,
we need to be strong and determined to get out and vote. We have to have resolve to defeat Bush. This election is huge. I live in a predominately Republican state (South Dakota) but we have two Democratic senators and a Democratic representative. This just shows that if we are steadfast, we can win. There are times when I think that we have an uphill battle but I come to DU and I am Buoyed by the others here. Together we can and will make our goal a reality. That goal is defeating George W. Bush! :kick:

3. The Mark Shields test
I don't know one Gore voter who will vote Bush this time but many Bush voters who have switched or will not vote.

Last time I knew people who had voted for Clinton but couldn't stand Gore and voted for Bush.

This feels better than 2000 and it seems the polls were about the same? If I remember right.

4. I've often thought, over the last few years,
...that we're dealing with a criminal organization on as dangerous a level as one James Bond would have to deal with. (And he's fictional.)

They have insinuated themselves into virtually every level of government, in the US and abroad, and life as we know it literally hangs in the balance.
