3. AN ASS!
As someone who was born and raised in St. Paul, and has been involved in St. Paul and Minnesota politics since before I could walk I can tell you that Kelly isn't in it for anyone but himself. This man is a weasel of the same species as Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN): Mustela vainglorious noted for its ability to sneak into positions of power despite having no actual moral compass.

Kelly did not receive the DFL (Democratic Farmer Labor party) nomination for mayor, the DFL endorsed Jay Benanav, but Kelly ran anyways. Kelly is considered only a nominal democrat by nearly all democrats in St. Paul.

There is no way that after this stunt Kelly will ever be nominated by the DFL for anything, much less another term as mayor of St. Paul. So he'll either quit politics or become a republican. His term as mayor will be over in fall 2005. That gives him a year to campaign for Sen. Mark Dayton's seat. Coleman ran for his second term as mayor while dodging the question of a gubernatorial bid. (He did run and lost to Jesse "The Body" Ventura.) If Kelly is stupid enough to try to run for a second term as mayor, the Coleman comparisons will only get stronger. So the question then becomes is a comparison to Coleman a good thing? Do Minnesotans want two Mustela vaingloria as their senators?

So does this help Bush? Kelly is not liked among independents in St. Paul, he ran saying he would keep their taxes down, but taxes went up anyway. Its a political move, and only a thinly veiled one at that.

4. thanks for the information
it's nice to hear from someone who's actually involved. I just read the article where people are considering recalling him what's the chance of that happening? If I had voted for him I would be wanting his head on a stick would be more than happy to sign the petition to recall his turn coat butt.

5. I don't know much about the recall

Keep checking on that for updates I think. My mother is very involved, but is at a wedding tonight. I'm sure we'll talk about it tomorrow, I'll know more then. I'll be signing it, even though I couldn't vote when he was elected. I'm not sure how far a recall would go, I've only been back in MN since March, so I don't how upset people are.
