We're sort of kind of, freaked because......
politics SUCKS!

Great campaign, huh? It's not polarizing this country at all, is it? Has it impacted upon any friendships of yours yet? I sincerely hope not but...

A couple of "friendships" of mine have been seared/smeared due to the inanity of it all. Oh, I know how important this election is; it will determine the fate of the planet, no doubt. But isn't it a shame that the greatest nation on the face of the earth has to choose among the elite choices we're faced with? Bush, Kerry, Nader. Swell.

I would vote for a speed bump before I would vote for that moron in the White House that we're stuck with. May I also suggest that Kerry is not the definitive solution to the planet's problems.

Politics doth make cowards of us all, imso. (s=steamed)

I gotta get away from this for awhile. I'm gonna watch a lame chick flick with my wife and daughter. The way I feel right now civilization can fondle itself.

1. Couple of my friendships were 'strained' during the run up to the war...
....they know better than to discuss the presidential race with me and ignore my antibush avatars on my emails :)

2. Well the first thing is to get rid of these thugs...and then hope Kerry
is much more than we expected...I hope that he is as gung ho as this administration was at tearing this country apart, in fixing it. It is going to be a very hard job seeing what a mess they will be leaving it in. If he gets it for 4 more years, I don't think it will ever be right again.

3. Husband's friend...
is a non-compassionate, sarcastic conservative. When I dared say that Bush wasn't doing a good job (and this fairly soon after getting us into Iraq), he said "Oh...you must be French!" as if that had anything to do with anything.
What really steamed me, though, was that hubby didn't say anything, either for himself or in my defense. (I've got no problem with a spirited political debate, just ad hominem attacks and complete sarcasm.)

9. I don't have any snappy comebacks for that kind of thing.
But you might ask them if they'd like to give back the Louisiana Purchase. :)

It's difficult to argue against friends and family.

4. I have had a difficult time with some RW's in my Family....
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 08:08 PM by Jokinomx
I have seven Brothers and eight Sisters. I haven't been to my Family web page for several months now... I spoke loudy against this war and of my support of Micheal Moore...also...I couldn't let my niece post about the gay marriage issue without voicing my opinion... she wanted members of the family to sign an online petition to protect the "Sanctity of Marriage"... whatever that means... needless to say.. I was rudely called several negative terms...(by one nephew who as in the invasion of Iraq, 101 airborn) and I haven't been back...

Yes... we are a divided country ... with divided Families.

P.S... I was NEVER rude....I just spoke my mind. It drove him over the deeeep end.

5. It's happening in my family, too.
It's heart-wrenching to see what the neocons have dished up for this country. What really irks me, is that it's INTENTIONAL on their part.

They had to look hard for divisive issues, like abortion and guns and gays, to try to divide people. Divide and conquer....it's what they want to do to be able to control the population. God forbid if all "the people" were on the same page!! The extremely wealthy among us might have another labor riot on their hands! And we KNOW how they don't like being told what to do by their "slaves".

:kick:

6. How about dreaming of
Swift Boat Veterans all night long? aaarrrggggg.
Nah, this isn't getting to me at all.

Yeah, had dreams of the 'SBV' all night long. Must have had something to do with the fact that the aunt of an ex-bf of mine keeps sending me email crap and I have to keep looking for the TRUTH to send back to her. Before * packs his bags, I'm betting the aunt and I will no longer be speaking. My parents, who are FOR Kerry, don't even want me talking to them anymore if the subject is *. They don't want to know what * is/isn't doing. They just want to vote him out of office.

I may be looking for someone to adopt me before Nov. 2nd rolls around. lol?

7. Stand by Facts, Remain Calm, give your Friends room to back down later
Don't give ground on the facts, remain calm (let them froth), but give your friends room to back down later. Don't burn bridges. If any bridges are burnt, let them do it, but be ready to help rebuild if they later have regrets.

8. that's the essence of modern politics
it's all about negative campaigning. the other side will always try to stereotype you into a hole, until you hear so much negative stuff about everybody you don't want to vote at all. that's why half of the country doesn't vote.

kerry warned us about republican smear machine when he won super tuesday. now we see it at work - according to them kerry is a flip-flopper

as senators mccain and hagel said - you can take records of any senator and find votes to make him look like a flip flopper, it doesn't mean anything.
