A plea to liberals

I am sure there are many liberals on this board who are way more politically active than I am, but at least I go to various forums and present the liberal point of view. Usually, there are people in any kind of forum (from music to sports to home improvement) who enjoy talking politics. Too often, people say to me that I'm the only liberal who knows his shit. Now, you know and I know that there are hundreds if not thousands of liberals who know their shit, but I wonder how many people from DU go to boards where less political conservatives and independents hang out.

If you have an interest outside of politics, find yourself a forum, get involved, and bring up support for liberal positions. You might find, as I have, a political discussion already underway. I think it's possible to win a few votes this way because there are a lot of conservatives and independents who are completely unaware of liberal accomplishments and conservative failures.

Again, I'm not trying to adapt a holier than thou attitude. It's just that I think there are a lot of voters who can be easily reached by those of us who enjoy talking politics, as is the case with most people on DU.

6. It's usually political boards where there's flaming

On nonpolitical boards, while there's some flaming, there are usually a few people who enjoy talking politics and engaging in nothing more than slight teasing. I've participated in a Patriots fan board, a music board, and a chess forum. While there are always one or two jerks, they usually leave because they're not interested in politics anyway. The others enjoy debating, and I think I'm pretty close to winning Kerry at least three votes. (Not great, but every vote counts.)

4. Hmm...I am a bit more cynical...

I would like a forum where people discuss this topic on a intelligent level. But I find boards like Yahoo crass. It is full of flames and personal attacks, things I have no time for..... I choose to be active by writing letters to my Congressmen, signing petitions, and financially supporting groups like Movenon and DU and ofcourse our nominee....

7. I make it a point not to talk politics at non-political Internet forums.

However, when some right-wing fuckwad launches into a political tirade at a non-political forum, I'll damned sure respond!
