Did Moore Say: "I hope more US Soldiers get killed" ??? (Scarborough)
Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 01:59 PM by UdoKier
I have seen this talking point on Moore repeated on the cable networks ad infinitum. It seems completely contrary to Moore's sentiments from what I know of him. Has this statement been debunked? Are they twisting his words?

Even if he really said such a thing, I don' think it diminishes the veracity of his films one bit, but it would disappoint me.

6. Dude, I'm asking a serious question.
I get this crap ALL THE TIME from friends and I don't know how to answer it.

If you have suggestions on how to phrase the question, I'm listening. But this is NOT a disruptor thread. I seriously want to know.

Since when do we attack people here for asking questions we may not like the answers to?

somebody is a disruptor. Numbers like that are actually in the "sweet spot" for disruptors.

I've been a Moore fan since "Roger and Me". I find it prretty harrd to believe he would say such a thing in such a context. I am just looking for ammo to ffight back when people throw this kind of crap at me.

This simply isn't Moore's stated belief or position. He has stated over and over that he is 100% in support of the people in our military.

47. It is impossible to prove "Joe did NOT say 'that'".

If you research Joe's written and on-air comments like a Republican after Clinton's penis and still don't find anything, you still haven't proven that Joe didn't say it. You've proven that you are unable to find proof of him saying it, but you've proven he didn't say it.

22. Yes, he basically was saying "WE wanted to do this. So WE have to foot...
... the bill... in money and lives. It's our baby. And since it is, WE are going to have to lose more and more of our children until we wake up and see that it's not worth it."

He said it clearly in the context of thinking this was horrible and unfortunate, but it simply is our responsibility now, and we can't expect other countries who were opposed from the beginning to give up their sons and daughters for it.

It really wasn't any different than Powell telling Bush that the "Pottery Barn rule" will apply to Iraq: "we broke it, we buy it". It was just inmore graphic (and real) terms, not a euphemism.

Oh, and he HAS defended the statement. BUt it comes to a point when (as always) the Repubs just don't listen and tell it however they want to tell it.

Edited on Fri Aug-06-04 01:59 PM by UdoKier
I personally am fanatical in my beliefs about labor rights and progressive taxation, fair trade, etc. But I don't believe that any one person on the right or the left is above having questions asked about them.

This is my first experience in getting dogpiled on for asking a simple question. I'm actually a bit overwhelmed by it.

I oppose the U.N. or anyone else risking the lives of their citizens to extract us from our debacle. I'm sorry, but the majority of Americans supported this war once it began and, sadly, that majority must now sacrifice their children until enough blood has been let that maybe -- just maybe -- God and the Iraqi people will forgive us in the end.

He supports the troops and the entire movie screams that fact.

and of course none of these dumbasses can find a source for it, because it's straight from their moronic fantasies.

You might refer them to the scene in Fahrenheit 9/11 where Moore is talking with Lila Lipscomb in her kitchen about her family's history of military service, and he says to her, "This is a great country."

45. Republicans lie all the time to convince ignorant people to vote for
republicans. Republicans do nothing beneficial for our nation, so they can not run on their achievements. Their only recourse is to make up lies.

O'Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Coulter, Hedgecock, etc., are paid to lie. They know full well they are lying, no one in their right mind would say such blatant falsehoods unless they were saying these things to deliberately deceive the ignorant and uninformed. They get paid to lie to anyone stupid enough to believe them, and they laugh at these people all the way to the bank. Most people that believe them are not blessed with the intelligence to do research. They simply accept what these paid propagandists say is true, like sheep going to slaughter.
