I don't admit this too often, but in 1988 I lived in Iowa...for one year. I was witness to the caucuses that year and the election. While there I learned to admire the "Iowan Common Sense". Sure it gave us Gopher in the House and Grassley in the Senate, but it also gave us Tom Harkin and has been a Democratic state in every election, including voting for Dukakis in '88.
I joke with my Illinois friends that since 1984 the Democrats I vote for win the state...and with Kerry building a big lead here, I expectc that streak to continue. I'm surprised Iowa is so close at this point, but I expect the Polk county folks (Des Moines) and the Iowa City/Quad Cities to carry the day again...as well as a popular governor. Next weekend I go to Wisconsin, I'll be curious to see what's happening up there.
