That was the real opening shot in the "Comedy Wars". Letterman finds the bit of the kid yawning and ansty...shows it, gets a big laugh. The next day CNN shows the video immediately followed by their newsbabe Darren Kagan saying that the video wasn't real...the kid was super-imposed against the backdrop. A blatant lie!
Later that day another CNN newsbabe (I think it was Carol "Blow His Wad" Linn) who again showed the story, but this time said that the tape was edited. Again, a lie.
Letterman called CNN on this, and it soon turned out that the "information" about the video being doctored had come to the CNN control room via the White House and the rapid response was whispered into the newsbabes ears and onto the air. Letterman nailed 'em on it. CNN then attempted to backtrack and make fun of the whole thing, but it was obvious that Dave was personna non-gratis in the GOOP and since then has been relentless on his attacks on the regime.
Dave has to be subtle on how he does it. Unlike TDS that is cable only, Letterman is on over-the-air TV station, subject to FCC rules, and also the fickle whims of local stations (most of then owned by GOOP contributing chains like Sinclair & Clear Channel) that either could cancel his show or bury it in a later time slot.
He's on the "A" list of Hollywood these days...you'll see a lot of the top stops stop by Dave before going on Leno these days (a symbol of respect) and his ratings have been rising lately.
I've watched Dave since the NBC morning shows...and he's always been a moderate and rarely ever got political. But in recent years, Dave, like many of us, have seen the devestation this regime has done to the country and how it's affected his friends and business.
It was great to see that latest Bunnypants Faux Pas on Dave's show last night, but I expected it. I hear Leno (who I refuse to watch since he became Gropinator's campaign manager) also ran it. The one who didn't was Jon Stewart. I wonder why. It's a classic.
