The New Theme of the Bush Campaign
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 01:36 PM by Pabst Blue Democrat
Today on the radio Limbaugh was ranting and raving about how a European (name escapes me, sorry) said in more words that basically despite Kerry's promise to gain international support and re-establish our relationships with our allies, it's not a given that anyone is ready to re-build bridges after what Bushco has pulled.

About a month ago, Kerry announced his education plan to, among other things, help make college more affordable to everyone. A campaign spokesman for Bush replied by saying that the national deficit was such that any plan like Kerry's would be un-realistic.

See the theme here? Bush is running on the hope that maybe, just maybe, he has screwed the country up so bad that NOBODY can fix it....certainly not John Kerry.

Folks, say what you will, but running on your failures is simply not a winning strategy.

BUSH/CHENEY 2004: BECAUSE NOBODY COULD FIX THIS MESS

1. I love that! I want a bumper sticker that says that.
Meanwhile, Rush sounds lamer than usual. If I follow his logic, he's saying that we shouldn't support Kerry because some European told us not to??? Rush said that? Ol' xenophobe himself? Ol' "'Muricans don't let anybody tell us how to run our country?"

Sounds like Rush needs a refill.

5. At least Kerry will try to mend the bridges
I suspect if they don't rebuild in a few years that they will if we continue to have non neocon leadership.

6. Don't get me wrong
I don't buy into this...but that is in essence what they are trying to suggest.

4. As conscientious Americans,
we cannot expect our government, no matter who is at the helm, to "fix" everything for us. We, too, must remember to take personal responsibility for our actions; to criticize our government when it messes up, according to the rights we enjoy through our Constitution.
I will vote for the Kerry/Edwards ticket, Obama for IL Senate (and there is a reason to be proud to be an American!), but I will also make sure that I am as informed as I can be about the legislation our government passes, and vow to know, from now on, just who represents my voice in said government.
DU is a wonderful place to get information, especially with all the great links to articles/essays that it has. A super alternative to the daily pap fed to us by network/cable "news" shows!

Thanks, DU.

7. An article in The Guardian the other day (economy not fixable)
It basically said the a Kerry defeat might be a good thing because anybody who takes over after W is going to have a very very large economic mess to clean up and there is going to be fallout.

"At the moment, the Democrats have only one thought: winning. But if they lose they will at least have the consolation of seeing Bush cleaning up his own vomit."

9. Nope. Bush never cleaned up after himself,
although you just know he's made lots of messes.

I'd rather not think about what he can regurgitate in four more years. We need him out ASAP.

Then we'll deal with it.

8. Clinton fixed B*I's mess
everyone, esp. Repugs, expected him to fail. Clinton is brilliant. Kerry can do, too.

10. It's so fscking simple
1. The world is watching the US elections. Hell, my kid who has zero interest in US politics (other than he knows I'm a politics junkie) cracks Dubya jokes with his friends.

Dubya reminds me of Michael Caine playing Sherlock Holmes in "without a clue" and the classic line "It's OK, everybody knows you're an idiot".

The US will have to work at mending its fences but the international community will forgive. It did get over Margaret Thatcher, eventually.

Kerry needs to make a few speeches repudiating Dubya's policies, especially having to do with AIDS funding tied to religious dogma, play nice with the UN, fix the Mad Cow and softwood lumber disputes with Canada and sign on with the War Crimes court and Kyoto.

2. College money is easy. Stop blowing money on wars and put it into tax breaks for college-student-paying parents.

3. Reviving the economy is simple. Look to Keynes. American's infrastructure is falling apart. Fix that and money will trickle up.
