Don't hold back..How did Mike Malloy really do last night???
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 12:22 PM by flaminbats
Was he uninformed and disorganized, or the Julius Caesar of the airwaves? Does he get an A for likeability or an F- for taking boring calls? Does he get a  or a big ? Do you want your kids to growup to be like Mike, or to be just human lie detectors? Did he burn you up, or fly you over the rainbow? Did he make you a happy camper or just hopping mad?

Please post what you really think..I will read every word, I promise! And will respond to every post..is that possible?

Tonight he should be tearing the junta some new orifices.

2. He most obviously needs...
Kathy back at 100%. A good radio man needs a good partner who also happens to be a great radio producer.

Now, he did mention that, as a new mother, she is a good milk producer...;-)

He'll get there. Lots of thing have changed. Except of course "The Line". Damn, that gave me chillbones.

5. Only got to hear the first 2 hours..
...b/c WLIB cut his show after that for some other program.

I thought he did very well for his first show back. Mainly all he did was bring everything up to speed since his last broadcast in March, say hi to all his regular callers, and get new listeners familiar with his style.

He'll be doing much better in the coming days and weeks, but I can't complain about his performance yesterday

6. When AAR first came out, I was really singing praise for Randi
but then she went kind of haywire. I like Malloy much better, I have to say.

8. He made me feel right at home

and that there's a lot I can look forward to. He predicted that he would get a lot of calls from veterans and well-wishers, but he also made the effort to make the newbie listeners feel like part of the "family." In terms of the political content, it wasn't a particularly substantial show. But that wasn't what he was aiming for. The theme was more along the lines of "welcome to my world"--and rightly so.

17. amen!

For years Mike Malloy was the only liberal radio guy on the air. It was that way when he was on WSB and on WLS. Liberals like me in the south would listen to him at night just to hear him on the radio in Chicago. Some nights it was just static, on others Chicagoland came in as clear as a bell.

But today liberals have become more common on the airwaves, and thank God ..Americans need more than one good liberal to go around!!

13. yikes...
I especially loved his warm welcome for all freeper nutcases to call, he's at his best whenever this happens..not just wimpy like ED.

Ed sounds tough until a freeper calls, then he strangely backs away.

11. It was good to hear him again. However...
Edited on Tue Aug-03-04 12:48 PM by NightTrain
...he sounded both out of practice and tired. That's understandable, though, considering that he was off the air for five months and that his wife just gave birth 10 days ago.

I'm quite confident that with a little time, Malloy will be back to his old firebrand self! :kick:

21. changing diapers and checking on the baby tires everyone out...
but Mike and the issues go hand in glove, and he'll make the next few weeks fun for all listeners!

15. I was a first time listener
And wasn't really impressed. I tuned in from my car and heard 2 minutes of music around 7:20 (must have been his break)

Then he gets back on the air and the next series of calls are "Glad to have you back, we love you, we miss you".

I have limited time in my car so I couldn't give him a large window to impress me.

Anyway, Mike pointed out that we need to have patience with him cause so many people are gonna call with well wishes. . .so my judgement is suspened until I hear a few weeks.

18. Malloy is one of the best...
He is very hard hitting but he wasn't that way last night. Perhaps it was his first night or because of the baby.... Let him settle in to this chair he might go back to his old self..

20. Do you think AAR has bound his hands at all?
I wouldn't think so. Randi does her thing pretty much the way she wants, so I can't imagine they would try to reign Mike in.

26. with IE it was the unions that he would work with..
now its AAR. Strange that conservatives refuse to even acknowledge the existance of liberal talk radio. To them this is just another crazy plan to undermine their power, freedom of speech...what's that?

19. Calls
I think he did fine. I would have preferred less calls, but I figure since the calls were going through New York, Air America was probably trying to get an informal listener count based on volume of calls.

Air America did little advertising for him so I think all those calls were proving to them Mike has solid listener support.

I'm sure he'll fall right back into his marvelous self over the next few days and show the new listeners what all us old listeners love about him.

24. just responding to every post makes me understand how tough this is..
Imagine trying to think of an original response to every question or comment every caller had for three hours. But he takes more calls than most talk radio hosts, and the callers can actually be heard without being put on hold for several hours.

25. I thought he was rusty.

He did get off three or four really good anti-Bush riffs, and
that's a sure sign of things to come.

And now that people have had a chance to welcome him back
into their lives, he can get down to the business of
doing what he does best - expressing our collective RAGE.

27. Where's the outrage..
the liberals with the guns, the flamethrowers ready to burn down the barns, the honesty of a dishonest reality, the truth of a truth-seeker, the madness of the outrage, the rage of the outed, the heads of the fat old neocons, the integrity of those Baghdad baby killers, and the weapons of mass destruction?
