Laura, Barbara & Jenna Bush in NYC - Terror Alert
Grrrr ....

EXCUSE ME! Do you think Bush*, the GOP, Poppy or anyone else within that cabal would endanger the First Lady and her daughters if there really was a threat? Of course not! Would you send your wife, daughters, granddaughters to a building specifically targeted by terrorists?

- snip -
Laura Bush, wife of U.S. President George W. Bush, appeared this afternoon at Citigroup Center, one of the targeted buildings, along with her twin daughters Barbara and Jenna, at an event staged for Citigroup workers in the atrium of the 59-story tower, New York's fifth-tallest building. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New York Governor George Pataki appeared with her, as they chatted with employees selected to talk with them.

``I want to thank people for coming to work,'' Laura Bush said to questions shouted from reporters. Citigroup is the world's biggest financial services company, and its Citibank branches are among the most visible U.S. businesses abroad.

Bloomberg is founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, parent company of Bloomberg News.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge announced the alert and identified the buildings yesterday after intelligence authorities discovered al-Qaeda plans that Ridge described as unusually specific. The plot aims at major attacks on financial institutions symbolic of U.S. influence in the global economy, Ridge said.

Oh Laura you're so brave, and such a loving mother to endanger your daughters! :puke:

He shouldn't have made the false terra threat, that's what he shouldn't have done.

He set himself up....no one else did.

54. Isn't It Great The Statue Opens For Whorefest?
Our neighbors went to NYC earlier this year and didn't know the Statue had been closed since 9/11 for "fear of another terrorist attack". My neighbor laughed at how the Statue could be used as some large bomb or how great a pilot one would have to be to hit such as small object (the statue isn't that tall) with a jet. He is (or might not longer) a Repugnican and was outraged how this and other public sites (they also went to Washington) are either closed or highly restricted. He was really disappointed as he was hoping to share with his teenage children the major sites of this country, just like he did as he was at the same age and couldn't do it. What's that say about where we've come over the past 4 years?

is following the trend he set during the "Nam war. In the Civil War boys like that were called "skeddadalers", and he has done so over and over-like on 9/11.

Hmmmm do we detect a trend here? Let's see a show of hands for our strong leader.

25. Sending Laura & daughters
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 05:17 PM by drdtroit
only proves what any honest thinking person can reason, Bush lies once again, continuing his MO of elevating the terror threat at politically expedient moments.

I don't think even Sadam would send his own family to a site he knew was a "certain" target let alone a God "fearin'" Christian that GWB alledges he is (who said "vengeance is mine"?, oh, the LORD).

Sending someone in the cabinet is not sacrificing anyone, they are simply doing the honorable and patriotic thing for their country (Oh oh, did I use "honorable & patriotic" in conjunction with this administration?! My bad!).

What other emotion other than fear can you possibly be manipulating when you give out these "threats" and tell people to just go on doing what they need to do. What's the point???

42. I posted this in another thread, but want it here too.
On 9/11, Bush himself said the Secret Service overruled him on returning to Washington. Wouldn't that same Secret Service overrule Laura and the girls AND BUSH on letting them go to the very building that was supposed to be attacked? Why isn't anyone questioning this of anyone in the administration? Either he lied (wink, wink) on 9/11 or they are lying today (wink, wink). Where are the guts of people in Washington DC to question the obvious?

do you know ANYONE who sent their wife and children INTO a building because of a bomb threat??? 99% are bogus...but it is the 1% that are valid that makes the people who are in a building to vacate the building ... NO ONE sends people INTO a building that has been threatened by a bomb so show they are not intimidated?? has INSANITY overtaken bush*????

9. What we're supposed to "get" out of this
Laura Bush and her two BEAUTIFUL daughters know George W better than anyone, and have confidence that he is keeping America safe. They also have total faith in God to protect them, and full knowledge of their salvation after death, so they do not fear it. Additionally, they are brave, just like George W.

BULLSHIT!! They're just being paraded out for political theater -- in the manner of terror-as-political-tool as Howard Dean openly pointed out, and for which he must be silenced for speaking the obvious truth.

I agree that they *know* (wink wink nudge nudge) that Laura is safe.

But Mr Rove's script calls for an increasing drumbeat of threats upon the America homeland -- especially in NYC -- leading up to the RNC convention. The media will weep with joy that George W is SO BRAVE and loves America and the democratic process so much that he is willing to risk his own life to attend this dangerous event to TAUNT the terrorists who seek to take away our freedom. Hell -- when His Chimperial Highness threw out a baseball in a game after Sept 11, they were falling over each other in maudlin fashion giving hurrahs to his Resolve and Bravery.

And here's another reminder about what is going on: when George is going down, he always pulls out Pickles, the "well-loved First Lady" for some PR extravanganza.

But we MUSTN'T say stuff like this, lest we be accused of not being "nice."

24. Methinks Rove is attempting a "bravery in the time of war" effect
Edited on Mon Aug-02-04 05:15 PM by lib71
the analogy is to the Royal Family's steadfastness during the Nazi shelling of Britain during WWII. Rather than hightail out of town to Scotland or some other remote location, the King ordered his entire family to stay in England and suffer through the bombing along with the citizens...from my reading of these times, this was an unimaginable act of courage and inspiration to the English people and went a long way towards cementing the goodwill between the royal family and their subjects (goodwill that has survived the disgraces of the past 15 years).

I think, though, that this, like many recent Rove tactics will backfire. Half the people will take this to confirm their suspicion that the "terror alert" is just a political tool rolled out by the Adminstration when the mood strikes them, while the other half will be gobsmacked at a President sending his family into an area where his Homeland Security secretary just indicated is highly likely for a terror attack.

I can see how the government would want to be appreciative of the workers that went to work.. BUT SEND YOUR WIFE AND CHILDREN THERE WHEN THEY ARE PART OF THE FIRST FAMILY??? Is he out of his mind? He's creating MORE of a risk to the employees by having his family there. He doesn't believe there's a risk, because there isn't one. The Secret Service would NOT allow them to be in that building, nor would Bush, if they TRULY believed that shit they're handing out. Hell, I'd be WAY more impresed if the dipshit himself when there. Otherwise, he just looks like a coward. Sorta like his sending his entire family to the Olympics, when all the OTHER heads of state are going.. to show that the Olympics is safe. Bush is a coward, he's afraid of real crowds, afraid of being in public.

29. New York Terror Alert is a HOAX!
This is the headline just posted at www.Earthside.com

New York Terror Alert is a HOAX!

"Laura Bush, wife of U.S. President George W. Bush, appeared this afternoon at Citigroup Center, one of the targeted buildings, along with her twin daughters Barbara and Jenna, at an event staged for Citigroup workers in the atrium of the 59-story tower, New York's fifth-tallest building. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and New York Governor George Pataki appeared with her, as they chatted with employees selected to talk with them."
Bloomberg - August 2, 2004

If there had been any possibility that there was a REAL terror threat, no way would Laura Bush have shown up at a "targeted" building with the New York GOP campaign team. Proof positive that the Bush regime is using terror alerts as a campaign ploy.

Isn't that the bank in which the Saudi royal family infused a ton of money and saved it from collapse?

Why would members of the Bush family be meeting there at a time when the city is under an elevated terror alert?

Meanwhile, Tom Ridge is on TV continuing to cry Wolf! Wolf! And I don't think it's his mating call for Mr. Blitzer.

38. It was on the local news
and Newsday said they were at Citicorp, but didn't question why Bush would send his wife and kids.

NYC has always been on high alert and the city doesn't plan on changing it to red alert. Below is the last paragraph in the Newsday article. It's like business as usual. So why the scare tactic now? Think of all the money they are spending and how hard they are making it for commuters.

snip ...
In Washington, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge said it would be up to New York officials to decide whether to move to the highest level of security, red. The city has remained a step below, on orange, since the color system was implemented after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Bloomberg and Kelly said they would not consider placing the city at red alert because the recent intelligence did not indicate when the terrorists might try to attack.

Reports That Led to Terror Alert Were Years Old, Officials Say
By DOUGLAS JEHL
and DAVID JOHNSTON

Published: August 3, 2004

WASHINGTON, Aug. 2 -Much of the information that led the authorities to raise the terror alert at several large financial institutions in the New York City and Washington areas was three or four years old, intelligence and law enforcement officials said on Monday. They reported that they had not yet found concrete evidence that a terrorist plot or preparatory surveillance operations were still under way.

50. I guess we can now conclude
that our original assessment was correct. The wife and kids were never in danger. They knew that, but were playing America like a fiddle.

How this plays out in the national media and how Bush and gang spin it.

If he gets a pass for using ancient intel, it's too bad 'family values' America doesn't grasp the enormity of endangering his family (even if we know they were not).

47. So the Bush Gals are being Turned Out...
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/209371p-180409c.html

Just like any dad, President Bush may sometimes feel exasperated by his children.

Vanity Fair's Christopher Hitchens reports in his August column that "a prominent senator" told him that, while visiting the President recently, the senator complimented Bush on his desk photo of First Daughters Barbara and Jenna.

"You have children?" Bush asked.

"Oh yes, Mr. President."

"You like them?"

"Of course, Mr. President."

"Mine are a pain in the a--," a straight-faced Bush allegedly responded.

Though the girls haven't lately embarassed dad with any boozy behavior (at least none we've heard about), Hitchens suggests the sober Bush "resents them because they can cut loose and he can't."

"That Bush did not surrender to the need for a colossal bourbon on Sept. 11 stands, I think to his credit," writes Hitchens, himself a Johnny Walker enthusiast."
