I'm gladly voting for Kerry, but I'd still cast a vote for Satan before Bush. So BOTH.

My sincerest apologies to everybody from Texas, excluding the cretinous cowboy from Crawford and all the right-wing/fundie/fascist freepers.

Molly Ivins and Bill Moyers are two GREAT Americans from Texas.

But I do give you credit for TRYING to back your statements up with some fact. My suggestion is the next time, do this BEFORE you make claims you can't back up.

8. Sangh, I never gave you numbers, what I said was that some folks
voting for Kerry are ABB, and if given a different option that would not support * would vote for someone other than Kerry.

You are the one who implied that I am the only person in America who falls under the heading of the ABB voter category. As far as I can see from this poll, I guess I am not as alone as you thought.

I said nothing of the sort. Please provide a link to where I said anything like that.

As far as I can see from this poll, I guess I am not as alone as you thought.

Only 10% say they are voting "MOSTLY" because of ABB.

22. And you did more than say "SOME FOLKS" were ABB and not pro-Kerry
You accused the Democratic Party of being "undemocratic" because they wouldn't allow a debate over the war, which implies that a MAJORITY wanted an anti-war debate (another assertion you provide ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE to support)

That the delegates were prevented from even challenging the platform or voting to include an anti-war plank is a demonstration as to how undemocratic the "Democratic" Party has become.

That wasn't what she said at all. GPV said she doesn't generally put an opinion up with an initial item. So no whose thinking and facts are confused?

And BTW there are a hell of a lot of us out here who will probably hold our noses and vote K as ABB types, and not because we think kerry is better than sliced bread.

While you claim that GPV didn't say s/he agrees with the "thinking", in the post I had just responded to, s/he said s/he "agreed with some of the thinking in it"

Furthermore, GPV is no longer a newbie. There have been enough posts to demonstrate that GPV agrees with most of the article

I don't want to see Bushwa in retirement-unless it happens to be by making small rocks from big ones for the rest of his unnatural fascist life, and going to the cage to visit with Mommy with arm and leg shackles on.
We shouldn't let him retire-he should be charged with criminal acts and do the big perp walk, every day on world wide TV-mandatory viewing right before the Pledge of A for school children.

And for company he can have all his little playmates from the neos to the CEOs, the WTO, IMF, NAFTA etc etc leaders as well.

because it's one the media whores love.

"Nobody is really voting for Kerry but because of their hatred for Bush. " 1. It's not hatred. It's a reality. This bunch of Bozos are a threat to democracy. And if you really had done your job as a journalist you would see their is no choice. Voting fascists out really is not a "choice". It's a reality for those with a brain.

2. I like Kerry better than both Clinton and Gore.Whom I both voted for. I want a fighter. No surrender!

I was really impressed with Kerry's speech too, and I'm a hardcore skeptic.

I can't wait to plaster "Republicans for Kerry" (I'm NOT a repug) all over my car for the macho knuckle-draggers here in Louisiana to see when next to me in traffic. They will either get confused and blow a fuse - drive around in circles - or perhaps think twice. The latter is what I hope for.

Wasn't so sure at first, and yes, I've read the articles in The Nation about how we need to move back to our Dem roots, but hey, let's get someone in there who's at least going to listen to us.

63. Exactly. Do I love Kerry's stances on policy? Not all of them. Do I
think I have a better shot of getting election reform or any number of other issues addressed by a Kerry Admin than a * one? Oh, yeah!

My theory is, if we get Kerry in and he can help get some election reform going, we might have a shot at seeing a President Kucinich or McKinney one day. :)

66. Why do we keep getting these polls?
Results always overwhelmingly support Kerry, but the polls are clearly attempting to undermine him. I mean no offense, I'd just like an explanation.

99. It was an outgrowth of a discussion in this post here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=2138386&mesg_id=2138386

Had to do with how much support for Kerry is truly for Kerry or against Bush. Probably doesn't mean much to folks, though, who aren't interested in ranked voting.

68. Kerry was the best option out of all the canidates this year
I think Dean would've fucked up the whole campaign by now. The only thing hurting Kerry is he is a Senator and not a Governor. He is a good canidate, but there is a reason a senator has not been elected since JFK.

That's silly imo.

Kerry had to earn my vote, and that he did.

73. God forbid anyone has a dissenting opinion
although I'm not sure if GPV ever said "vote for Nader" - but she/he should probably have realised by now that any opinion except Kerry is God is going to be spat on.

Before you accuse me of being a freeper/"Naderite" or whatever the current slur is I don't vote in US elections - if I did - I would vote for Kerry but I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for a Liberal nirvana but the lockstep thinking that many posters on DU seem to require at the moment is disturbing. The claim that any leftie expressing doubts about Kerry is going to change the mind of some swing voters is ridiculous.

Very well said. If we all wanted lockstep we could stay with Cowboy Small. Nice to see that not all opinions require bit of tunnel vision. The DP platform is more targetted towards the "moderate" and the renegade Republican, not the liberal or progressive.

same goes for the British (New) Labour Party or the Australian Labor Party. The "third way" means nothing more than right wing with a nicer smile.

you the bulk of which had nothing to do with Kerry. I suspect you have missed all the non-Kerry ones somehow.

As far as voting goes, I am voting for Kerry but I don't have to fall down on my knees and worship him. You don't like it that I have opinions on his platform, tough.

But that was at the very beginning of the year. I supported Wes Clark but when that didn't work out I began to really watch John Kerry. Now there is no doubt that he is the man!

76. John Kerry
was about fourth on my list in December of the ones I really wanted (ol' Joe was never on my list at all). I saw him take a statement of Dean's and pretend to misunderstand it and lie (I mean spin) about it. Being a relative neophyte on political argumentation, I was outraged. I did vote for JFK in the primary (Illinois) as the only electable candidate. However I continued to listen and by the convention his speech just blew me away. I do wish he'd take a little stronger stance on some things but maybe this technique today of having Dean rip Bush a new asshole and Kerry allowing as how Dean had a right to his opinion and Dean says Kerry has a right to his opinion is something they planned. I sure hope so. It was great!

RW militia-type folk out in.. hmm.. Montana, is it? Not sure.

But there is also a website called "Free Republic" which is sorta like DU, but is the oppostie in terms of the politics they gravitate towards there.

80. Liked Kerry from the start
I've been a Kerry fan since watching his first campaign stops on C-Span 7 or 8 months ago. I've always liked his positions on the issues. I like how he interacts with voters and how well he listens when asked a question. He's thoughtful, deeply caring, and fundamentally honest.

I flirted with Dean, Gephardt, and Clark, and I think any of them would make a good president. But I discovered a lot to like about Kerry once I took the time to find out more about him.

82. I'm voting for both reasons.
I really like Kerry. He seems like a man who understands the burden of responsibility that goes with the power of the presidency. He's an incredibly smart man with a good record and a nuanced understanding of the issues, not to mention the ability to make political alliances with other nations, rather than just writing them off. I agree with his stance on most (if not all) issues. Plus, he frickin' respects his wife's ability to speak and think for herself.

Conversely, I hate the Bush administration and all that it stands for. It becomes more and more apparent each day that we are headed in a frightening direction, in which corporate interests control the government and the government controls the people (please excuse the glare coming off my foil hat). We've "turned a corner," and I don't like what's on the other side.

After 9/11, I was distressed that we didn't have a leader like Lincoln or FDR: someone who could navigate through turbulent times, and inspire the nation with his wisdom and dignity. Bush could never be that leader, but Kerry seems more and more like just the person I had in mind.

90. Well I was fully ABB but now
I'm in the "Kerry's not too bad" column. The speech helped. But I have some issues with kerry on some of his stances. Mostly his pro "war on drugs" stance, and his support for Isreal building "the wall". His speech earned points with me, but I am suspicious by nature and these two issues are a big deal for me.

93. With Kerry from the start
Way back when they started televising those debates and the "evenings with Tom Harkin", I thought Kerry came across as thoughtful and knowledgeable.

Maybe it's the long sentences (though nobody on earth speaks in longer sentences than Joe Lieberman) that make him sound like he always knows what he's talking about. Maybe it's the historical allusions; I'm a sucker for Ben Franklin quotations. I probably couldn't tell you how the differences between his health care plan and, say, Gephardt's (another policy wonk) would specifically affect you or me. But I knew that he had thought about it, had studied it, and could defend it.

Similarly, his Web site had the longest and most detailed policy papers.

I thought many of the candidates had a lot to offer. But somehow, the process, as screwy as it might look, got us a solid, substantial candidate, somebody I can support enthusiastically for who he is and what he represents, not just because he's not *. "Not *" isn't enough to get us to where we could be.
