Randi Rhodes changing her race to "black" - Show introduction
Edited on Thu Jul-29-04 02:22 PM by DesertedRose
She said black democrats are the only ones with guts. So she's switching over. ;-)

Show's on! She's lauding Sharpton's speech.

"Ride that donkey as far as it will take you!"

I agree for the most part... especially after that memorable scene from F-911 on the senate floor.

12. I was unaware that Sharpton's speech was impromptu and
that he discarded the six-minute limit the DNC tried to impose on him.

Makes me admire the speech even more. What he said needed to be said. And you can't put a time limit on the truth, either.

Thanks, Al!

14. Speaking truth to power
That's the name of the game.

Democrats can't afford to be afraid to do that anymore. This has been a energizing, empowering convention.

Thank you Rev. Sharpton...thank you Dr. Dean....speak truth to power!

16. That's hilarious
Never heard of the Diva but I like what she has to say:

"Well, I always just assumed I was white. I never really looked into it carefully, though," she remarked today. "I guess, since I have red hair, green eyes, freckles, and the complexion of Elvira, I took it for granted that I was white."
<snip>

After a thorough review of media reports, The Diva came to the obvious conclusion that she must be black. "The only people, according to the media, that feel the way I clearly do -- that are certain that criminal acts are on the verge of putting an illegitimate leader in the White House -- are black Americans. You don't find evidence much less ambiguous than that, do you?"

17. African Americans Are The Soul of the Democratic Party
and IMO, the heart and soul of this country. I am not saying that others don't have a heart or a soul. I am saying that because of slavery and the fight for civil rights,we had to fight like hell for every inch of space in this society.

The beauty of my position is that in order for African Americans to be recognized for their HEART, a lot of Whites and other racial groups had to support us and pull us out of slavery and MARCH with us. This humanity has shaped our country and has sent a strong message of Brotherhood all around the globe.

Brother Sharpton was awesome! His praise and recognition of Soul Brother Ray Charles is yet another example of the SOUL that African Americans have shared with everyone.

It filled me with happy tears to see the beautiful faces of all of God's children in the audience at the Convention. It was a lovely example of what this world can be with Kerry/Edwards in the WH.

18. Absolutely
Black America...White America....Gay America....Hispanic America...

we ARE the UNITED STATES of America. Only Democrats embody the spirit of equality for EVERYONE. When one group suffers, we ALL suffer. Democrats recognize that. The Republican agenda is selfish and clueless.

23. Sorry, I think those generalizations are irresponsible
Saying that only the black Democrats are fighting for us is not a statement I have much respect for. You can recognize the extraordinary acheivements and efforts of the CBC and other black Democrats, and you can acknowledge that many of the establishment Democrats are not fighting, but that doesn't mean that one RACE is fighting and the other is not.

24. Considering that Dean won the D.C. Democratic Primary...
(you know, the one that didn't count) in a primarily black area...beating Sharpton even...

I don't think the majority of democrats (black, white or otherwise) believe one race is fighting and the other isn't.

Randi is just being Randi. That's her way of aligning herself with a group of people that are historically passionate for democratic ideals. And it was intended as aligning herself in agreement with Sharpton's speech last night. Not so much anti-white as affirming the pro-black democratic stance (since there's been LOTS of talk about the black vote being taken for granted).
