Damn now just look at those treatorous mountains. Look at that rough terrain. Look at that punishing pace he's keeping. Wow.

10. thank god he's wearing goggles or else he could poke one or both
eyes out on those upturned handlebars next time! He is the quintessential 'man in black.'

Now there may not be actual mountains in Crawford, but he is riding with the wind - verrrry treacherous!

11. Notice the toe clips on the pedals?
Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 07:57 AM by Divernan
With his poor sense of balance and history of spills and falls, I don't understand why his handlers would have him use toe clips on the pedals. If you need to stop quickly or lose your balance and don't want to tip over, you need to be able to put one of your feet off the pedal and quickly onto the ground. With your feet strapped into toe clips, this is much more difficult. Probably there are phalanxes of Secret Service people just out of sight of the camera. They propped him up and gave him a push from one end with a group waiting to catch him 20 feet away. I mean if he could ride at all, there are all kinds of much more active poses for PR pictures!

ON EDIT: Just read the AP article referenced above. I was right, he took a bad spill because his bike started to skid and his foot "got caught in a strap that keeps it on the pedal." Maybe some of his athletic adivsors are being a tad passive agressive: "Oh, yes, your excellency - all REAL men use toe clips!"

12. Someone who supposedly rides with such abandon
doesn't bother with helmets, toe clips, mouth guards and their own private MD.

13. This is so G-D posed and fake!
Edited on Tue Jul-27-04 07:58 AM by BiggJawn
Flag in the background and everything....

And I *DO* wish he'd STFU about how he took up riding because running hammered his knees. If he rides at anywhere near the intensity he claims he does, he'd be toasting his knees pretty crispy on the bike, too.

And who's his coach? Lance has Chris Carmichael, and studied under Eddie B in his younger days. I read everybody's writings and study videos. Does Karl run alongside, yelling lines from "Every Second Counts" into Dumbass' ear?

It sure sounds like he ought to have some training wheels on that bugger.

16. That's strictly a posed shot, IMO
It appears to me that the bike is improperly sized for him to be riding seriously. The seat seem too low; it doesn't look like he can fully extend his legs on the downstroke. That's not only inefficient, it's hell on the knees. The shrub's not a biker.

21. And it's a bad shot as well
There's nothing dynamic in the picture, no movement, no fun. It was probably meant to, because the photographer took the shot from a very low angle, but it sure did not help. He looks like he's about to fall off the bike.

Besides, * rides to the left, which is the direction of retreat. Look at war (propaganda) films: the attacker/winner *always* comes from the left and goes to the right!

And wearing no protective gloves is pretty stupid, with *s history of clumsiness. In all of my bike falls I was falling on my hands and then rolled over my shoulders, which is the best way to avoid head injuries. Also, why in hell was * wearing a tooth protection, as reported elsewhere?
