Have you read the party platform???????
ABB yes. Sell out our party's basic beliefs, NOT ME!!!
Unlimited stay in IRAQ, and support of the patriot act...This isn't moving to the middle, this is selling out.

2. I am totally against staying in Iraq. HOWEVER...

Only idiots would tie the hands of an incoming president by specifying a leave time.

I don't know why anyone on the planet would support the Patriot Act. I figure the only way we'll get rid of it is constant legal challenge and shiny new judges. It won't be repealed till it's egregious. That's why it never should have been passed and anyone who voted for it should spend time in the stocks getting pelted with rotten eggs.

Now run off and vote for whatever third party spoiler you think will make a nice noble statement.

4. So fuck me, vote for somebody else???????
if you won't say anything to get OUR guy elected....
This takes "party unity" to a new level.
I'm uncomfortable with it.

6. Either Kerry or Bush will be President come 2005...
...although I too have "issues" with some of the positions of the platform, and some members of the Democratic party, I'll be voting for Kerry. Why? Because on the fundamentals, I have far more confidence in Kerry doing the right thing than I have in Bush's abilities. Kerry/Edwards are for kicking our foreign oil dependency, and that would go a long way to keeping us out of future entanglements in the middle east. Kerry/Edwards strongly support fully funding education opportunities, health care, or, as I think of it, they support creating a future of opportunity for my children, rather than a future of fear. Problem with the inclusion of things like a position on Iraq, Patriot Act, Homeland Security...there's just enough Democratic initiatives in there to make them albatrosses to oppose outright. Some of the measures in the Patriot Act were first recommended by Gore, counterterrorism measures that Clinton pushed for. Homeland Security, hell, that was Liebermans brain child, that guy that was our VP nominee in 2000.

On the things I disagree with Kerry/Edwards/DNC on, I'll settle for working from the ground up for change. Making those changes will be FAR more possible in a Kerry/Edwards administration than they would be in a second Bush term.

3. Kerry has already stated clearly the need to overhaul the patriot act...
to insure civil liberties. I don't think any of us believe that some sort of increase in security after 9-11 was unwarranted. The Patriot Act went way overboard. If Kerry stops Patriot 2 and 3, and overhauls the first one, I'm okay with that.

As for the Iraq war, anything could happen after Kerry takes office. He showed an aversion to pointless wars in Vietnam, and that's good enough for me to want to give him a try.

11. It's late...but it's incredible to me that "asking" if
you have read the democratic platform would bring attacks on me personally.
I'm a Democrat, I'm not someone who will support a candidate I'm "supposed to support".
I can ask questions, and if I don't like the answer, I'll ask some more questions.

13. You didn't just ask if people had read the platform
you said it is 'selling out'. That's a comment - and that's what is getting attacked.

14. Maybe it was the multiple question marks...
...which some take to be the sure sign of someone who likes to yell in libraries. It conveys a sense of "outrage" that many have grown quite skeptical of.
