Went to see 3 bands last nite & at the back voters were being registered!
It wasn't a benefit, or a rock the vote, or a fundraiser.

It was just a big local coffeehouse that had 3 live bands play last night from 10pm to 1 am.

It was jammed packed with 18 & 19 year olds and mostly twenty-somethings and in the back there was a couple of people registering new voters.

Each of the bands onstage mentioned several times "Hey make sure you are registered to vote so you can help vote that motherfucker Bush out of office. Not voting is just plain stupid." The crowd roared! The bands said go to the back of the house and get registered to vote before you leave tonight.

(I'm in my late 30's and I just happened to be there sort of by coincidence but I stayed for a good while and was happy to see the voter registration going on and the young people there fired up to vote. These kids don't want to go fight Bush's oil war! Plus I was overhearing how turned off they were with Bush's homophobic bullshit.)

The voter registration looked to be a brisk business last night! I left feeling good.

1. Thanx...I was really in the mood for good news.
It's encouraging to see youth of America putting years of goth apathy behind and getting involved.

2. And was this in N.C.? If so, YESS!
I saw where Dean Smith is a Dem and was at the Kerry/Edwards rally in N.C. This has forced me to rethink a lifetime of hatred of U.N.C. basketball. I'm serious. I'm from Maryland, by the way.

3. Why yes it was in NC!
(I'm a UNC grad, BTW.)

I do like your "Fear the Turtle" pic!

You're right--Dean Smith *is* a Democrat! He stood on the podium with Kerry and Edwards when they were here in NC a couple of weeks ago. It was about 100 degrees and humid that day and ol' Dean's shirt was soaked through, but he smiled and clapped with all the rest who were there!

6. Maryland? Bob Novak is a huge Maryland fan.
And I hate Bob Novak. I wish just once those fans would make his life miserable at a Terps game. he is a traitor and should be punished. But no one cares as long as the team wins.

10. I believe he is. he is always
broadcasting from tournament sites during March madness. Don't mean to get down on the team but that guy sucks. here in Connecticut, when our recently resigned corrupt Governor ( Republican, by the way) showed up at a University event he was booed badly. Novak is a traitor and should be treated as such.

11. That's great, pexcore!
I don't expect everyone in their twenties to get how important voting is (but it is--esp. when Bush wants to keep us in a perpetual state of war) but knowing that *a lot* of people in their twenties DO care really heartens me.

It was especially heartening to hear the bands on stage encouraging the people there to get registered and vote.

In my twenties, when Reagan was in office, I don't *ever* remember voting information or voter registration going on at clubs or concerts or coffeehouses.

So kudos to you guys for having your sh*t together!
