Daily U.S. Casualties 8/20/2003


As of Tuesday, 269 U.S. soldiers have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq, according to the military.

The British government has reported 45 deaths.

On or since May 1, when President Bush declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 131 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq, according to the latest military figures.

The latest reported deaths:


At least 20 U.N. workers and Iraqis were killed Tuesday and about 100 others wounded when a suicide attacker set off a truck bomb outside the Baghdad hotel housing the U.N. headquarters. Sergio Vieira de Mello, 55, the chief U.N. official in Iraq, was among the dead.
The latest identifications released by the military:


Army Spc. Eric R. Hull, 23, Uniontown, Pa. was killed Monday in Baghdad when his vehicle hit an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 307th Military Police Company, U.S. Army Reserves, New Kensington, Pa.
