Dark Age Ahead Jane Jacobs
Description: From Powell's Bookstore in Portland, Oregon, sociologist and author Jane Jacobs discusses her newest book, "Dark Age Ahead." The book examines five key aspects of modern life that the author sees as the pillars of a successful culture, all of which seem to her to be in serious decline. These pillars are: scientific progress, family, taxes and government, pursuit of higher education, and self-policing. Ms. Jacobs writes that at the base of this downfall are racism, the widening gap between the wealthy and poor, and environmental problems which the author claims if left unaided, will result in cultural decay.
