I downloaded F911 from the internet.....sorry, but I am unemployed
and dead broke, and I just couldn't stand it any longer. I had to see it.

It was, indeed, a good movie. And it covered a lot of things that have been covered here. I think that it will blow the minds of some Republicans. It is a history-maker, in and of itself.

1. I believe Mike Moore has said he doesn't have a problem with it
being downloaded. If he didn't, I am sure he would understand your situation and not have a problem with the download.

Glad you enjoyed it as much as the rest of us. I am with you, can't wait till more and more repugs see it. It is definitely enlightening.

(snip)

Controversial film-maker Michael Moore has welcomed the appearance on the internet of pirated copies of his anti-Bush documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 and claimed he is happy for anybody to download it free of charge.

The activist, author and director told the Sunday Herald that, as long as pirated copies of his film were not being sold, he had no problem with it being downloaded.

“I don’t agree with the copyright laws and I don’t have a problem with people downloading the movie and sharing it with people as long as they’re not trying to make a profit off my labour. I would oppose that,” he said.

So if you got some evidence of this oft repeated claim, please show it!

I'd seriously like to see Moore's views on this.

PS~ I'll be trying to find it as well:-)

If you don't like pirating then just say so. Don't speak for Michael Moore when he is on video supporting it. He wants people to see his work, even if he doesn't get paid.

If any other band in the universe had come out against Napster, I would have been willing to at least consider their position. But Metallica got where they are PRECISELY by breaking the rules--encouraging fans to copy and distribute their music, and installing bootlegging sections at their concerts!

96. No doubt you employ a collection agency to get your fees

from deadbeat patients so why trash artists who want to protect their work and be paid when people watch or listen to it? Artists have to eat, too, and so do all the people involved in producing, marketing, and distributing their work. You surely make more money as a physician than most musicians or filmmakers do and your career will last longer than most of their careers, too.

I have a cable modem, which costs $30.00 a month. I don't have a telephone and I don't have hot water, am unemployed, and my husband hasn't been paid in over two weeks. And, it won't be long before they cut the cable internet access off, too. Oh, and the only thing in the house to eat? Microwave popcorn. If it's any of your business.

But, once again, thanks so much for judging me and my situation.

49. I have downloaded and made copies for several people.
I give it to them absolutely free, but I ask that they promise me one thing: If the film makes an impact on them, they have to go to their nearest theatre showing the film and BUY A TICKET. They don't have to go in and see it again, they just have to buy the ticket.

So far I've given three copies away. So far I've been shown two ticket stubs.

Sure, I can afford it... but it will take a few months for it to start playing here, and I just wasn't planning to wait. But what if I lived in the US, and didn't have any money? I would download it at work if I were allowed to. You don't need to have Internet access at home in order to do it.

8. See link at post 4 ....
Despite up to 150 people simultaneously bagging free copies of its most valuable property at any given time 24 hours a day, Lions Gate says it has no plans to oppose the practice. While unwilling to make any official statement likely to further provoke Hollywood’s heavy hitters, the film company appears to have fallen into line with its director’s laissez-faire approach.

Moore said: “Is it wrong for someone who’s bought a film on DVD to let a friend watch it for free? Of course it’s not. It never has been and never will be. I think information, art and ideas should be shared.”

Defenders of Moore’s position include Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino, who earlier this year encouraged audiences in countries where his films are not legally available to obtain counterfeit copies.

10. There's still a lot to be said for seeing it in the theater.
I've seen it twice in the theater, and I also have a downloaded version that is actually incomplete. I'm happy I've seen both so that I know what I'm missing in the "free" version.

First of all, you wouldn't expect sound to be such a huge factor in this kind of documentary-narrative kind of film, but in this one, it was extremely powerful. The explosions in Baghdad, for example, are truly frightening when heard in a packed theater, and the point is driven home through the use of sound.

The second time I saw the film, it was in a beautiful, historic theater, and all of the sound was pumped through a single center speaker. The effect just wasn't the same.

Also, I loved the sense of camaraderie and experience felt in the two crowded theaters. The applause, the laughter, the shock, the quiet sobbing... Fahrenheit 9/11 is so much more than a movie, isn't it?

I'm very happy you were able to experience the film, Th1onein. I do hope you'll be able to scrape together a few bucks to see it on the big screen surrounded by like-minded people and killer sound, though... hell, I'll even PayPal you a few bucks if it'll help. :D

34.  Your "review" adds nothing to the discussion about
the movie.

"It was, indeed, a good movie. And it covered a lot of things that have been covered here. I think that it will blow the minds of some Republicans. It is a history-maker, in and of itself."

More than anything, you seem to advocating downloading the movie illegally.

What's your point?

35. I thought that this was a place that I could express my Democratic views..
Perhaps I was wrong.

I didn't think that I was writing a "review." I saw the movie and I thought it was great, and it struck me as very unusual that a documentary could change history, as this one is going to do. I have lived for 49 years and never seen that. I have grown tired, as have the rest of you, of seeing the Dems in Congress run like scared puppies at the Republican vitriol thrown at them. I am so proud and so happy that we have a champion in people like Michael Moore and I wanted to tell people that I think that this movie is going to make history, as the first documentary to change the outcome of a national election.

The reason that I admitted to downloading it should be obvious: I can make no comment (as many fellow DUers did) about my fellow audience members' reaction to it, since there were no other audience members. And, of course, I admit that I feel guilty because I did not give Mr. Moore a piece of my money, by going to the theaters to watch it.

If I had wanted other people to download it, I would have posted the website here.

Like I said, though, it's so nice to find that the very people you thought were on "your side," are your judge and your jury.

46. Your post just seemed a bit meaningless.
Nothing original to say about the movie. Sorry you're unemployed. Sorry your husband hasn't been paid recently.

You list your hobby as "biochemistry". Do you actually have a degree/work experience in that area? Can you truly not find a job in the greater Houston area?

Or can you not find a job that's worthy of you? After all, your husband will get paid again. If you were single, would you be so proud?

52. I know how she feels
I haven't seen the movie yet either due to transportation problems. I would have to travel quite a distance, at some expense, to do so. Therefore, I'm waiting for the dvd. If I had a high speed connection, I may have succumbed to the temptation also. It is very frustrating to have the most important movie in years out there, and not be able to see it. The joys of living in NowhereLand.

68. Geez. My hobby is biochemistry because I started studying it a few years
before my son died and never stopped.

I don't live in the "Houston" area. I live in the Galveston area, and there are NO jobs in this area, unless you are talking about pizza delivery jobs, which don't pay much now that gas has gone so high. It is really, really bad here, worse than Houston, which has lost a lot of jobs, too.

I am actually waiting for my old boss to get another account, so that I can go back to work. In the meantime, we are stuck with my husband's "job" (he is a subcontractor), and unfortunately, the guy he subcontracts for has not been able to pay him much ($140 in almost four weeks now) lately.

I'm not "proud," I'm just stuck.

But, I've seen it over and over.

There are many things that many of us have just learned to keep quiet about, and not say what we're thinking, or save it for times when we can handle a fight.

How's that for sad........

Then we wonder why our party is in the fragmented state it's in.......

I'm with you......... this is very sad.

69. I think her point
was to share the fact that she downloaded it and watched it even though she can't afford a movie ticket to see it in the theater. And she wanted to throw in what she thought of it. You know, like the rest of us got to do when it first came out.

What's your point?

51. If Anyone Else Wants to Download It
I will sponsor you by going to see it again. I have already seen it twice, but I will gather a new group of people who have not seen it this week, and I will go as your surrogate. The condition: make sure at least one other person sees it as well.

In other words, Mike & Lion's Gate still get paid, you get to see the movie, and as an added bonus we'll show it to a few more people to boot.

I've been unemployed for 3 years, so I understand what you're going through.

Good for you for keeping your internet connection to the real world - DU - and for sharing your story. DU is my lifeline right now - aside from the money, the worst thing about having no job to go to is the isolation from the rest of the world.

Just remember to take it one day at a time and most importantly - take care of yourself! I know that's become the latest platitude, but I find it difficult to take some recharge time because I don't feel like I deserve it because I don't go to a job everyday.

I find peace and hope in yoga and meditation.

Peace to you.

Michael Moore's main reason for making this movie was in the hope that it would help remove Bush from office. He said he doesn't care if people d/l it and watch it, as long as they aren't making movey off of it (I have the same views as him on this). Try to get an uncedided/nonvoter to see it as well.

If things do look up in the near future though, you may consider seeing it in the theatre or purchasing it on DVD (it should be on DVD by Sep/Oct I think).

Good luck with your situation. The internet is a great tool, and I think a cable modem connection is as important or moreso than a phone connection. In some countries it's been subsidized by the government to an extent where it's very cheap and widely available (South Korea is the one country that comes to mind).

And don't pay attention to some that are acting all self righteous and judgemental.

92. I've seen F-9/11 four times in the theater,
so I've already paid for three of you who are downloading free. Be my guest, if it's OK with Mike.

Friends I've taken with me to see it are now seeing it multiple times, too. So they'll have paid for a few more of you.

Just so everyone sees it, so they'll have the information to spread to the undecideds, and the amunition to use against the ostrich-head-in-the-sand Republicans. That's what Mike cares about.

93. I'm unemployed too buddy...
...but I still managed to save over the last several weeks in order to have my $10.50 go and see it when it opened here in Australia. I saw it on Friday, something I paid for.

I have rent to pay, I have bills to pay, maintenance on my car (by the way, that car, was given to me by my grandmother who went into a retirement home. I couldn't even afford a car)to pay for, food to buy, and guess what buddy? I do this on a mere $200 a fortnight AUSTRALIAN!

My partner (Sapphocrat, an American citizen by birth, still living in the U.S.) is also unemployed. Has been since the dot com crash of 2000. If she isn't able to afford to go to the flicks to see something, then she won't go. She hasn't seen F 9/11 yet. Needless to say, she won't be downloading a pirated (regardless of whether or not Moore approves of this, it is still piracy) copy so she can see it and we can talk about.

Well done buddy, you have contributed to one of the many reasons why there is such a hard clamp down on legitimate file sharing.

If you can't afford to see it, then collect soft drink cans and exchange them for $$$ so you can see it.

By the way, the only way to truly see that documentry is on the big screen. You did yourself an injustice as well.

102. For all those who are worried about Michael not getting his money,
why not download the movie and then send him a dollar? That's probably more than he would actually see from your $10 ticket price anyway. The only people who are really losing out on your money then are the studio (who obviously didn't produce this film for the money) and the theater owners (screw 'em). Or better yet save up $5 and send it to the Kerry/Edwards campaign.
