ABC News raises the possibility of more troops being sent to Iraq (Draft)
Kay Bailey Hutchinson also said more troops may be needed in Iraq. Where will they come from? How many soldiers are left for these enterprises? Iran, Syria and North Korea are in the on deck circle, which convinces me that if this Administration is returned to power in 2004 they will bring back the draft (not having to face the voters in 2008--if there is even an election then). The fact that the Pentagon does not want it is irrelevant. They don't get to make that decision. Their job is to follow the orders of the civilian command, and they want an imperialist war of conquest and a gargantuan military.

3. No party wants to be the one to reinstate the draft
Even Republicans aren't that stupid.

5. they'll do it...
...when they find a way to blame it on Clinton. "We have to re-instate the draft because of the RIF under Clinton." Just watch.

I already heard this Clinton's cutbacks/RIF shit from a retired military friend... And he's not a freep either.

6. It won't help
All of Israel is an armed camp.....Palestine is occupied and has been for years.

These people won't stop until they have their country back. I, for one, don't blame them a bit.

7. You might have to careful of this post
this is very simplified and i am sort of making it up as I go along.

As I understand it the u.s.army is made up of 300,000 regular full time troops and 700,000 part-time National Guard troops.

For sake of argument the 300,000 full-time troops are classified as Grade A units. They are your 'Iron Fist', they take care of the battles, the invaison of countries. They are well trained top quality troops with all the latest firepower and with commanders who have experience in battle.

The 700,000 National Gaurd troops are grade C units, they are used for occupying countries.

So the mechanism is you invade country A with your 300,000 'Iron Fist', they get the country under control a bit, then you rotate them out and replace them with 100,000 National Guard 'occupying' troops. But they are on a 1 year on, 1 year off system so that takes care of another 100,000 National Guard troops waiting at home to replace those 'out in the field'.

So now you are ready for country B with your by now well rested 'Iron Fist' but your bank of occupying troops is now down to 500,000.

Etc. Etc.

8. Is that how Rumsfeld explains it?
Ain't buying into that.

For every fighting soldier it takes 3 to five support personnel, cooks, drivers, fuel people, mechanics and so on.

We are spread very very very thin.

9. So
using the logic of the above post.

The u.s can't go boo to a goose at the moment, it's 'Iron Fist' is currently locked up in Iraq. China could quite happily invade Tiwain and they would not be a damn thing the u.s. could do about for quite a while.

Also you're Grade A units are just standing around being picked off one by one by the Iraqi resistance, a task you're Grade C units could forfill just as easily. More importantly the morale of your Grade A units is going downhill. This is not the job they were meant to do.

So the guess would be a 100,000 call-up of National Guard troops, which can be passed off as extra troops but is in fact used to rotate your 'Iron Fist' out of Iraq. This will need to be set up by the media.
