In one-month Dean jumps 9-points in NH now leads state in ARG Poll
Television ads and letter writing by Howard Dean supporters earlier this month may have paid off in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire based American Research Group shows Howard Dean gaining nine-points in the past month and now leads his nearest rival Senator John Kerry by a 7-point margin. Kerry had led in July by 25-19 percent.

Dean 28% (had 19% in July)
Kerry 21% (down from 25% in July)
Gephardt 10% (no change since July)
Lieberman 4% (a steady decline over many months but down from 6% July)
Edwards 2% (no change since July)
Graham 2%
Clark 1%
Braun, Sharpton, Kucinich under 1%
Undecided 32%

Dean now has his highest favorable rating yet in NH. 63% favorable 7% unfavorable and 28% undecided.

Kerry has a 61% favorable rating 5% unfavorable and 32% undecided.

Among the 32% who are undecided 41% have a favorable impression of Dean and 32% have a favorable impression of Kerry.

2. Dean has gained quite a bit of momentum
for somebody who nobody had heard of back in January.

He's the only one inspiring (at least the Dem) voters
and Bush continues to slide in the polls. If he wins IA
and NH he'll be tough to beat.

The real stunners are Lieberman and Edwards. Both of them
are going backwards and Graham has just never taken off.

7. How is Edwards going backwards? He's in double digits in SC
and he'll soon be in first there, in Arizona, and Oklahoma all states in which he's doubled his points in the last months

And the proclamation that "nobody had ever heard of Dean" is bogus. He's been the governor of a state that shares the same media market with New Hampshire for over a decade, and he'd been campaigning for almost a year before any other candidate.

5. ARG has a bad reputation in polling
however, I still think this is a good sign for Dean.

9. I wasn't aware of that
all there other polls before this one have had Dean and Kerry tied or Kerry slightly ahead. It will be interesting to see what other independent polls show as well.
