Black Box: Diebold stock beginning to falter?
Edited on Tue Aug-19-03 03:33 PM by BevHarris
Diebold webcast earlier this month:

"We have two primary drivers for the next quarter: San Diego and Ohio." The deal ($31 million, for 10,000 touch screens) in San Diego is signed by not consummated yet. Ohio: By Aug 15 will identify preferred vendors to the counties. "We’d like that to be just one vendor, Diebold," said Thomas Swidarski of Diebold. Ohio counties will have a 30 day window to select which vendor to buy. The Ohio deal may be worth $150 million or more.

Friday Aug. 15 came and went with no Ohio endorsement of Diebold, and now the purchase may face an extended delay. http://www.news-register.net/community/story/0819202003_com1.asp

"The path to touchscreen voting in Ohio has been rerouted temporarily, and it's possible state voters will again cast punch cards in next year's presidential election.

"It's now a wait and see proposition," explained Belmont County Director of Elections William Shubat. "They (state officials) are going to have to give us a certain amount of time to decide on which system we want, but the issue is tabled for now.

Anyone care to comment on today's stock chart, or why the flagpole rally at the end of the day?

2. Their press release capitalized on the Lynn Landes article
Her article exposed Avi Rubin's conflict of interest, but did a much more devastating job on SAIC.

And as for Diebold putting it in a press release, if I was in their shoes, I'd do it -- wouldn't you? It's about the only good news they've gotten, and to tell their "good news" they have to remind everyone of their very bad news (heh heh).

Just sent a nine-point press release on more substantive issues. I put a copy in the thread about the Diebold press release.

And there's more a'brewing.

5. The Diebold chart closely mirrors today's Dow
It's got the same minor early decline, a recovery about 11 am, then falling off with some ups and downs, until a sharp recovery just before 3 pm that brings it about back to where it started.

Probably the market experts here would know more, but it doesn't look to me like anything special to Diebold.

7. I must be losing my mind
Bev -- didn't you also post a new press release, 9-pointer? I can NOT find it. I was trying to find it and kick it, and maybe it just keeps eluding me, but I can't find it.

Anyone? Post a link here if you do.
