The day after the inauguration, of course.

1. I think it's toss-up who wants Powell out...
Edited on Wed Jul-14-04 08:02 PM by punpirate
... more desperately--Powell, or the neoconservatives....

On edit, this presumes the Bushies steal the election. Otherwise, it's a moot point. Powell would be gone, anyway.

John Kerry's likely to pick someone else for the job!:D

BUT...it may well still be a former Army general in the post!:7

B-)

8. No, I'm worried he will be VP. No matter what Cheney says, he is not
going to be on the ticket on Nov 2. Rove is going to get rattled here pretty soon and Cheney is going to say his ICD (implanted cardio device)fired and he is quitting. Powell steps up to "serve" his country.

10. Powell killed his VP chances with that little YMCA thing.
Whether it was deliberate or not I don't know. I think the guy just wants out.

Hopefully Kerry will win and Powell will be home writing his memoirs and trying to salvage what little is left of his reputation.

9. What happens post Jan 20?
I assume Kerry's cabinet members don't become cabinet members until they're approved by the Senate, and that doesn't happen until after Kerry is sworn in, correct?

So what happens in the days between W leaving the White House and before the Senate swears in the new Cabinet? Do the old administration's cabinet members keep the title for a few days longer? So Powell would in fact be Sec. State on Jan 21?

I'm mostly interested for Presidential Succession purposes.

13. I though they were confirmed during the Transition period
might be wrong here, but I believe that confirmation occurs during the transiton period between the election and inauguration
