Voters from all parties who favor the recall of California Gov. Davis because of California's $38 billion deficit will, no doubt, call for the removal of President Bush. After all, the California deficit represents only 2.7 percent of the gross state product, while the Bush deficit amounts to 6.3 percent of the GNP.
The projected Bush deficit of $455 billion plus the $150 billion he took out of Social Security to pay for tax cuts and the war amounts to $605 billion, which is the real deficit. That figure is 6.3 percent of our $9.5 trillion economy.
Unlike the president, Davis didn't have the benefit of a huge surplus when he took office. But he did have federal unfunded mandates, Gov. Pete Wilson-era energy deregulation, Ken Lay and other corporate crooks, an industry-controlled Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, open borders and a high-tech sector that was hit hard by the market contraction.
Bush parlayed the huge President Clinton surplus and projected annual surpluses as far as the eye could see into a mammoth deficit and annual deficits as far as the eye can see. Do the math and it's obvious that Bush is the politician who needs to be shown the door.
