Potty mouth
When Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., dropped the "F-bomb" in a Rolling Stone interview late last year, the immediate response from George W. Bush's camp was predictable. Mouthpiece Andrew Card, speaking officially for President Bush on CNN, said, "That's beneath John Kerry. I'm very disappointed that he would use that kind of language." It was also hypocritical, considering Bush's own history of foul language.
Now we have Vice President Dick Cheney cursing out Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., on the floor of the Senate, which Sen. Leahy apparently "deserved" for simply trying to do his own job, which includes federal oversight and checks and balances. (It's not his fault that Cheney's toes happened to be in the way.)
Personally, I don't care what kind of language these guys use, in public or private. I'm all for freedom of speech. However, I'm also for consistency, and against hypocrisy. So the only right thing for Bush and his administration to do is to admonish Cheney for this behavior and demand an apology from him. Failure to censure Cheney for this incident only further exposes them for the shams that they are.
