What Will Our Troops Do During A Civil War In Iraq?
This has been bothering me. What will our troops do when the civil war breaks out? What would they do if the Kurds proclaim a separate state and the Turks invade them? Are our guys going to support which ever side the current leader of the country comes up? If its a religious division that sets the war off, which is possible enough, then even the new Government (I call it that jokingly) may be split and so then who do you support? What is going to happen?

1. What a frightening thought..... and not all that unlikely
I only hope we can get them out if that happens, but given we know any escalation in violence only makes Bush* more "resolved," it could be a horrendous possibiity.

4. The U.S. will back the side they want to win, they will supply
more than what is necessary to win and call it "The fight for Democracy" You can bet that the spooks are getting things lined up now for the big show.

2. Well... if recent history is any indicator it's a 2 step process

1) Hole up in their compounds (hopefully in safety)
2) Wait while G.W. looks for a scapegoat and/or calls the waves of violence "progress".

sucks doesn't it? ;(

5. The 200 billion dollar question!
Cut and run or dig slit trenches. What choice do the troops have?

9. I'm afraid that scenerio will soon become reality
When the various Iraqi factions no longer have a common enemy (US) they will start fighting each other. NATO treaties may require US support of Turkish troops if they are attacked by Kurds - more than likely the Turks will attack the Kurds, US can probably stay out in that case. Anyway, if (when) civil war breaks out, I don't think there is much the US can do - we will be a target from all sides. US credibilty is gone in the region, thanks to Chimp and the neocons. When civil war breaks out we are screwed - Iraq will more than likely become a fundie Islamic theocracy that welcomes terrorists who will attack the west and western interests. Perhaps the Saudis can be persuaded to help - after all, this will be occuring on their doorstep...
